I purchased a used SR combo yesterday. Never owned a Marshall, last amp I owned was an Blackstar HT40. I've played a number of Marshalls in my local GC including the JVM combos. I've only had a few hours in with the my SR but one thing I am finding is that it has a real fuzzy sound, like I put a fuzz face line. I have been unable to dial it out. In am wondering if perhaps what I am hearing is indeed just part of the Splawn sound and I am just not used to it. I made a recording with just a drum machine and a guitar with a bareknuckle humbucker. I am just noodling but I wanted to get something recorded for others so they can comment on whether what I am hearing is just the natural sounds of the SR or perhaps there may be something just not right. I do not have a history of the amp as far as the tubes or any other work that they may have gone into the amp. Please excuse the playing, I am a keyboard player by nature and just recorded one take but I did try to play with different picking and strumming styles so folks may be able to respond to the sound. I am using gear 1 with gain at about 1 o'clock. I have tried a whole bunch of different guitars and setting but the result is the same. Love the feel of this amp. Please let me know if this sounds right to you. soundcloud.com/rickshapiro63/sets/splawn

I dont hear any fuzz at all bro. I think the tone is spot on for a Splawn. It sound exaclty like my Street Rod......which is killer. After having it for a while are you liking the tone better?

I am really falling for this amp. I've done a few more recordings and tweaking and it just sounds great. I love the feel of this thing, whether you call it "hair" or "bite" I now get it. Sunday will be my first live gig, cannot wait to play at volume. I have a smaller gig on Saturday and am debating to use it or just stick with Modeler, it is such a small hall. A lot of the clips I've been listening to on this site have been towards metal or heavy rock, I am more of Hendrix, Zep, Stones, Rush,Who type of guy. I appreciate the feedback.

I like the tones you got! It sounds natural and organic. I like that you can hear the string separation.

Rickshapiro....what are your settings if you dont mind sharing?? Do not really recall. I had the loop volume down quite a bit, gear 2, gain at about 1:00, Treble and Presence way down and mid about 10:00.
