So I have been looking for another guitar recently. I have owned a lot of Fenders, Gibsons and PRS models over the years, Les Paus, Strats, a Tele, Custom 22, 24, McCarty, CE-22......and in my recent search, it all comes back to Gibson and Fender. For ballsy music that require slamming lows, full tone, and punch for rock, nothing tops a Les Paul or SG, for clean and crunch, I love my Fenders.....but the big surprise is losing interest in my PRS guitars over the years. Everytime I would play a gig, the tone or sound was always just bigger and ballsier with the LP, my McCarty, SC and Custom 22 sounded too polite. So, over the years I have sold off my PRSi with the exception of my one CE-22. So now in search for my next axe, I came across a slamming SG Standard that just sounded huge, cutting, ballsy and punchy with loads of character. Looks like an SG Standard in my future!!!!!!

I guess you never had a PRS with a Tremonti Treble pickup installed. WORLD of difference.

You want ballz? Try an Explorer. Nothing like having a coffee table of mahogany to warm up that tone.

You want ballz? Try an Explorer. Nothing like having a coffee table of mahogany to warm up that tone. I don't play metal any longer but I had a Tremonti treble in two PRS guitars. The last one it was in, was my CE-22, but the Dragon I bridge is just as punchy and full and I think sounds better than the Tremonti. The CE from 1994 is the only PRS I kept and would not mind another. However a Gibson with a Rio Grande BBQ bucket bridge pickup is hard to beat. Having seen Mark Tremonti a few times live, I never liked his live tone. Half the time, the opening band would blow him off the stage with better tone.

"Most" folks that don't like the Tremonti pickup didn't wire it into their guitar right. The hot and ground are reversed (I have witnessed this and even experienced luthiers get it wrong). Every guitarist I have played with in rehearsal and live I have buried with the PRS using the Tremonti pups (even playing through something other than my Splawn). I've used Dragons (the originals) and also Dragon IIs. They pale in comparison to the Tremonti pup. To me the Tremonti pup actually reminds me of a BBQ, but with more balls and a tad more volume. I've been using the Tremonti pups since they came out and I have a brand new one sitting around waiting for my next PRS (if I can ever find another one I like ). I've never heard Tremonti live, but his tone on the solo album is great.

What can say, after years of playing lots of guitars, I am good with Fender and Gibson. Too much in the way of balls can be a bad thing. I still prefer the BBQ, and Dragon or Gibby HB-L. I would probably like the Tremonti more if I was a metal head. Hey Snapp....you know I think you are a great guy. I did wire it correctly, I just don't think I like too many ceramic magnet pickups except the Duncan Custom and Dragon one bridge! Thus far, my favorite pickups have been Rio BBQ, PRS Dragon and Gibson HB-L. I don't want to bury the other guitarist, I want to blend in and sit well in the mix, hehe. I have an itch for another McCarty and I won't be against trying another Tremonti in it rather than my BBQ. But since I prefer the tone and punch of Gibsons I would probably go that route. Even though I play a lot of clean and lighter rock, I tend to like medium to hot pickups. Low output pickups or PAFs never so it for me. Maybe I will give the Tremonti another go around. Tremonti's tone on record is good but live I did not like it. I used to like Alter Bridge but I can hear to much in the way of religious overtones in their music like Creed and that became a turn off for me.

All my guitars are stock now and I love it!!! I hate swapping Pickips and will not do it again. Just got a PRS Mcarty which I find to be the best PRS ever made next to the CE-22 and the stock Mccarty pickups rock hard!!!
