Sorry for the poor pic, I'll take some good ones later today probably. Super rare with the "drip-edge" aluminum trim around the grill. 1968 Vibro-Champ. Last year with the solid pine cab and no changes to the blackface circuit. Original tubes and speaker. Sounds cleaner and clearer than probably any of my other amps.....Its THAT sound, very rich and warm and the tremolo is just brilliant!! These go for a pretty penny these days...walked into the pawn shop beside my a.m. workplace, saw it, knew what it was instantly, had it at the register before I even noticed the $80 price tag.........

So that's what drip edge means! 80 bucks. Ridiculous. Well done.
Been thinking of a clean amp lately for my Strat, but don't know where to start. It's all foreign.

Dang, outta sight! Looking for one myself, but its gonna be more like $300...
Ayton, if you don't need stupid volume, the "Fender Tweed Deluxe" or "5e3" amp is dynamite. There are tons of clones for under $1000. I had the one from Valvetrain, awesome amp, too loud for my bedroom, not loud enough for gigs. On the cheaps the Egnater Tweaker is really cool (use the special Celestion Custom speaker they sell). If you need loud, the Silverface Princeton Reverb is awesome, with tremelo and reverb, and if you need stupid loud, a silverface Twin Reverb is great for under $1k too.
If you don't want Fender, just keep the gain low on your QR on gear 1, it's really nice!
Have fun!

You've given me some great Googlable leads, SD, thank you. My main problem is that clean amp people just know what type of tone all these have by their cosmetics – tweed tone, black face tone, silver face, happy face, sad face, clown face... And I don't. I imagine tweed sounds warm with a tiny bit of dirt, so I'll start there.
And yeah, the single coil sound at micro gain levels on 1st Gear (I have a Competition so no clean channel anyway) is surprisingly beautiful. The EVs likely help here with a bit of chime as they seem to faithfully put out what you put in (versus say my old Greenbacks). I can foresee running out of volume at a gig as it sounds better and better the lower you take the gain control, more open, which you have to make up with the master, but I'm either noodling or recording so that's fine. Kind of a secret tone in these amps.
How about a clip of Drippy, Angus?

Ha! Drippy...I like that. I'll fire up my spare mixer and see if I can get a clip up soon. Whats the best way to upload audio only? I could use my iphone to record but I imagine the sm57 or e609 might sound better...

Ohh!
Tweed - midrangey, "warm", with a bit of grit, like you said. >"Rock and Roll" and 50s blues brownface - between tweed and black, but closer to tweed, one of my faves! but out of the budget! blackface - scooped pristine clean, but can get crunchy easily >surf or 60s and later blues silverface - a bit of hi fi added to blackface, these amps are the bargain at the moment. brit - trebly and bright but midrangey too. british pop and blues Beatles/Stones is Vox, you know the Marshall purveyors! Valco, Danelectro - dark with serious crunch potential(a sound I think you would like!), gets that uber low fi "swamp" sound, pre 50s blues vibe.
For "vintage chime" its an alnico speaker, I have just the thing if you want that...
Have fun!

That is an awesome little cheat sheet, btw. Very useful.
I actually still have an alnico Gold sitting in the box. Was gearing up to sell or trade, but maybe I'll keep hold of it for now.
Angus: A lot of people seem to use SoundCloud? I just stick stuff on my own web space, but I'm special.

Champs/Vibro Champs/Broncos are great little amps. They really didn't change much from blackface to silverface like other Fender models. $80 is a freaking steal for that - nice score. I bought a hacked VC on eBay and rebuilt it stem to stern. It pales in comparison to my early Goodsell Super 17 but they are great fun little amps nonetheless. Love that style of trem as opposed to the roach. Stick a better speaker in them and they really shine.
