I usually only go to 2nd w/od2 but lately with my Wolfgang I have been using 3rd more. I put a milder 12ax7 in V2 so that might be why but it sounds good

Honestly I use all three gears on my quick rod. I use third more at home then at a gig or recording but I do use it. It's basically insane but I love it

I have not found a gig use for it but it sure is fun to play with. Gain at 12 noon in 2nd covers most classic rock for me at gigs.

It's the insane lead channel. That's why I crave a new four button QuickRod.

EDIT: Duh, just realized this is the Street Rod area, not Quickrod. Don't have an SR ...
With my old QR and Pro Mod, I used to park it on 2nd for gigs and switch between OD1 and OD2. One time I started up and my sound was RAGING in a good way. I took me til the 2nd set to realize I'd been playing around with it earlier in the week and I was on 3rd gear. Since I needed to roll back for less gainy sounds on a bunch of songs I decided to go back to 2nd ...
BUT, I will have the new QR in a couple of weeks and then I'll be able to use 2nd and 3rd on the fly. I'm going back to Splawn because I like pretty much all the sounds!
