It was born as a Sovtek Mig60 head in 1994. In July of 1998 Scott Splawn modded it into a little fire breathing monster. It was recovered in boa tolex, a cool embroidered Splawn faceplate was added and let's not forget the carefully penned control markers in silver Sharpie. The black alligator Soldano cab has Avatar Hellatone 30 speakers (Celestion G12H30 70th Anniversary). Most of the time when I play it I will goose it a little with an original Marshall Guv'nor pedal but it sounds great with a Les Paul just plugged straight in. Tone for days. But it doesn't have a name. I also have a 2006 Quick Rod and that one is... well, a Quick Rod. This little guy has no name. "Splawn modded Mig60" just doesn't seem to capture its essence very well. Sometimes I call it my "Mini Rod". Most of the time it's just my "Snakeskin Splawn". I am open to suggestions. Got any?

Not bad. The rig altogether is known as my "Splawndano" rig.

Spig. It's kind of a little mutant. That suits it well. Splawn 60 is kinder.
Referring to your "mini rod" could cause trouble in the wrong company.

So after getting the Soldano 4x12 last weekend and migrating my Avatar Hellatone 30's into it and loving it (and ditching those gawd awful Eminence Legends) I was cruising Craigslist looking for another cheap 4x12 loaded or unloaded. My plan was to ultimately put WGS Green Berets and Reaper 30's in an X pattern. I see an ad for an SLM (Crate) compact 4x12. Excellent condition with new casters and a new quad of WGS Reapers wired at 16 ohms for $300 bux. Can't buy the speakers for that so I pulled the trigger. I know the baffle is plywood and the cab is MDF but even if it sucks I pull the speakers and I'm still ahead. The cabs are almost exactly the same size since the Soldano is on the small side for a 4x12. The guy even delivered it to my house. Real nice chap. Turns out he is a local WGS dealer. Can get me any speaker at the online price with no shipping. Schweet. I fired up the Snakeskin Splawn and hit three chords and handed him $300. He was quite impressed with the "amplifier formerly known as Mig60" and I thought the little SLM cab was really pretty good all things considered. Sounds great with these speakers and my amp. WGS calls the Reaper 30 a drop in replacement for the Celestion G12H30 Anniversary. It's not an exact copy (and granted these are not broken in yet and the SLM cab is not a Soldano cab) but it's damned close. It's got a touch more high end hair but that may fade as they get broken in. I am very impressed with WGS speaker and I'm pretty much a convert. I have a little Sovtek 1x12 slant cab (the one that sold with the Mig50 Midget head) that has a WGS Retro 30 that I have been digging for quite a while. Good speakers at a great price. I tacked on the Marshall logo I had laying around.

I believe there is another thread on a 'splawn modded mig'
shouldn't be too hard to find
