I'd been looking for a moderately beat up Marshall cab for a thing I'm doing, and couldn't let this oddball example get away. Ordinary 80s Marshall 4x12, yes? But when you look inside... It's just a massive 2x12. With all those cubic inches and just two speakers it should have great thunk and beef, though obviously I'll have to destroy those V30s first. I'm a 2x12 guy and I like the idea of the half stack look with only two speakers as well. They called this the 1961B (instead of 1960B) and apparently they're pretty rare, though not expensive. Old enough to be plywood instead of MDF, I notice.

There are about three posts total on the internet about 'em!
This was a Craigslist find, too, but from a dealer in Pittsburgh.

That is rare. Google had to ask Jeeves and they still don't know.

Hows the cab with those EV's? I have some old ones in a twin reverb that I attribute its particular tone too. Thinking of making a double Thiele cab for a pair....

Hows the cab with those EV's? I have some old ones in a twin reverb that I attribute its particular tone too. Thinking of making a double Thiele cab for a pair.... Sure works for me! After the military tightness of the Mills cab, I realized I actually want a little vintage knock and thunk in there. In the Marshall, I get the big balanced sound of the EVs with some vinty 4x12 chunk. I read that Gary Moore got his giant Still Got the Blues tone from an EV-loaded Marshall and a JTM 45. Running a Les Paul into 1st Gear I can see how. Mercy. I'm a recent convert. Surprised me how smooth these speakers are. I'd always kind of feared they'd sound sterile and hard like playing though your stereo, being sort of PA speakers. Not at all. Really musical and inspiring. And nothing sounds as good when you wind the guitar's volume down. I can't do anything normal, and so the setup's a little different: one EVM-12S and one 12L. The S has slightly more snarly, Greenbacky mids. Interested in trying a Theile. One EV in a detuned 2x12 sounded incredible, so crisp and weighty at the same time. Apparently a hassle to mic and record ported cabs, though.

Trade ya my gov/mow and a few bucks for those v30's Much as I'd like to own something you'd touched, I don't have 'em anymore. I'm down from six V30s (none of which I wanted, they just keep coming to me!) to two smoother Brit ones. Don't know whether to sell those or shelf them for that day in the future when I get an amp that wants them.

I'm sure they sound awesome in that Marshall. I saw one of those cabinets just a week ago, for sale with a Marshall Artist head. I have an oddball Weber speaker that is supposedly a clone (or at least based on) of the Cerwin-Vega er-123 he allegedly used in conjunction with celestions in his cabs. Its 100 watts and I'm DYING to put in something...
