Hi all..I´m happy owner both Splawn flagship heads QR and Nitro...When I compare both heads side by side my Nitro with volume at 12 o´clock sounds same loud as QR on 9 o´clock...Nitro is loaded with 6550´s so it should be even louder on same volume level...Also I´ve noticed that Nitro is saggier and less articulate than QR almost on all posible settings I´ve tried...Also I´ve tried bunch of tubes in pre section and power tubes are band new recenly changed and biased by technician...Is it normal?Thanx..

What year are they from? They don't all have the same volume taper.

Is the fx loop bypassed on each? I have Ruby EL34's in my 2009 Nitro and it's razor sharp and loud enough to drown out any drummer with the volume at 10:00. I'd think yours would be tighter and louder with 6550's. Can you tell us all of your settings?

It´s 08 model..QR is 2007..Yes loops are bypased on both amps..Rolla-I use QR volume at 10 o´clock for rehersal and giging...It´s loud as hell..But last time I played Nitro with my band I ended at 12 o´clock and I was lost in the mix...For better ability to cut through I had to set presence, mids and treble almost all the way...

Hi,
to answer the question...not normal! Fresh tubes should give plenty of volume and top end. Should be biased "Warm", sometimes amps are biased "cold" and are not as "articulate" as our dear president... Call the good folks in Dallas NC and check with your amp tech for the bias/tube specs.
Good luck!

The lad who sold me Nitro was saing something about master volume mod..He wanted just better bedroom level or so...When I spoke with him last time he said he doesn´t remember yet but is highly propable that his amp tech did some kind of that modification...He propably didn´t know that loop volume it´s made for..I´m going to take it to other amp tech this week to check it out...

Good call. Always make sure you're dealing with a healthy amp first.

It´s geting better guys...I changed PI tube /for Sovtek LPS/ and it seems like new amp now...I spent more time with tweaking eq properly because it´s not as easy as with my Quick Rod and I like Nitro tone much better...Also I swapped pickups as BKP Miracle Man is more understanding with Nitro now because I put it to brighter guitar with overal more mids result...I went with gain down to 4-5 and it´s nice chuggy and articulate and it´s pleasure to make heavy rifs...

it´s pleasure to make heavy rifs... That's how I'd describe a Nitro.
