I run an Xotic BB with the gain around 9 oclock and the volume at noon. I can run the gain on the amp a bit lower this way and the BB compresses the tone a bit which I like. I leave the BB on most of the time. The Nitro does not need a boost but I like the versatility boosting offers.
Are you using a the yellow Boss OD pedal ? I have two of those modded by Analogman. I have not played with that pedal in years. I may need to go dig it out of the closet now......

And I am only using it for solos. If any has a suggestion on a pedal that will add gain and creaminess to solos I am all ears. Since I like to run as little gain as I can I need a little help on the solos. Would a clean boost be better or something else that I can roll off the highs with. I have an MXR eq I usually use in the FX loop to boost the volume ad run a gain pedal in the front of the amp but I have worked so much on the main soud of this I have not had time to mess with it. Might work on it today.

My SD1 sounded fine today. Still digging the amp. Made a few tweeks since ear fatigue set in yesterday. I am hearing a pulse in the amp. Not loud at all. I know my old Marshalls made some good aweful noises lol. The odd thing is the gigantic bottom end is no where near a bad as it was yesterday. I actually have the bass at 11oclock and the res at 9. Only with the EMG guitars. Too mushy with the passive ones.

Hmm,
if you put the eq in front, should be able to get a gain and fatness boost from it, just frown the eq to taste and bump the level. I use and recommend a boss GE-7 for that on other amps.
good luck!
