Ive benn doing alot of experimenting with differtent preamp tubes and I wanted to pass on a break through I discovered tube rolling. I bought several different nos and cureent production tubes and the biggest tonal difference has been in the phase inverter or V3 stage. I happened to try a matched triode nos sylvania made Jan 12AX7wa in that position and wow... The difference is staggering. The balance between all the tonal ranges is exceptional. Currently I am using a NOS Amprex in the V1 wich gives an exceptional organic, bright open tone to the amp. In the V2 Im using a NOS Tesla ECC83, this gives the amp a whole new dimension in usable tone from the tone controls. These are all pretty high gain tubes especiall the JAN, however the amp is still quite. This set up has given me wonderful string seperation and all of the odd order harmonics and crud tones are gone from the previous experiments with jj's, sevetlana's, EH and sovtek tubes to name just a few. This amp responds so much better then before that I have fallen in love with it all over again, and ordered enough of those tubes to last three life times. Just thought I would share my conclusions. Im open for ridecule... GO
