So what do you guys think of the new album? I thinks it's very good. Ed is back with a vengeance! I just saw him playing at the dress rehearsal in LA for family and friends and man....... he sounds like he did 30 years ago. Very clean and defined! Can't wait to see the show in March!

As a VH "lifer" .....for years I have been so disgusted with VH. I hate the fact that Mike isn't in the band and from all accounts, Ed & Al f'd him....but he is doing great with Chickenfoot. After wasting my money and time on watching Ed unable to play his own tunes because he seemed to be on Meth.....all I can say is...Ed is BACK (for now). I am actually excited again. He is smiling...a real smile...not the "I am on drugs smile"!
So, although Dave is still the weak link and needs to lose the head set mic, Ed is ripping it up again. Now we all need to join hands and pray that he stays sober...for his sake and the music's.

Yeah Dave definetely looks goofy up there with that headset and his hoola dances in " tattoo". But Ed looks like he's healthier..... not as skinny as last tour. His playing is night and day compared to last tour. I don't know all the details of the differences between Mike, Sammy and the VH brothers but I am sure Ed's drinking and drugs were probably center of it all. Like you said...... let us pray that he stays clean. I love the new album. Not a song on it I don't like. I know alot of the music is, for a lack of a better term, "old" as far as when it was originally written. But that doesn't matter to me. And I even have the demos with the original versions of some of these songs. Ed wrote the music and its great stuff and its all newly recorded and fresh. I've heard on the radio and read a few reviews where that point keeps coming up but I say so what. Its not like they haven't done it before. I think some of the reviews I've heard or read are just looking for something to complain about. How do we know some of the "new" riffs and music we've never heard before wasn't written 20 years ago? We don't know that and it doesn't matter one bit. I think they did a great job and can't wait to see them March 30th in Pittsburgh.

Only heard a few of the tunes... Tattoo is ok, loved China Town though!! Man... I have to go out and get that album lol.

I thought I was going to hate it and I'm no fanboy by a long shot..but this album is killer. I have to admit that Eddie's playing is 100x better than it has been in years. The single is the weakest link but the rest of the CD more than delivers. I could care less if the riffs are from the old days...so what? Very surprised to say the least.

It is a great album. If you didn't like Van Halen before I could see someone not liking it but to me it sounds like their earlier stuff with some modern taste here and there. All the songs are good. Ever since Dave left the band I have been waiting for the day they make another album. Well here we are and I'm not disappointed. On the last tour my show got cancelled and rescheduled twice due to Eddie's 'health' reasons. However, on that third leg of that tour Eddie was sober. I could tell. And he played like he was sober. It was spot on. If he hasn't drank or done drugs since that makes it almost 4 years. I'm sure someone else who is close to him would know more.
I for one am rooting for him and looking forward to seeing them in April.

This album by all accounts is a Masterpiece!! Even the single is growing on me! Can't wait to hear it with the top down and the sun beaming!!

Just picked the cd up... great album!!! When I first heard Tattoo on the radio, I was sincerely hoping that wasn't the best song on the album... Might not be my favorite VH album of all time, but it definitely ROCKS!!! Still not sure why they are pushing Tattoo as the hit single though...

I'm really loving the new CD.. as much as I dislike the single the rest of the album is great. I wrote a little commentary/review.. be warned its long and not really interesting to a casual VH fan probably.. but its gotten over 30,000 hits since last week.. check it out. craigsmith.us/?p=209 |

I am like you, but I have a couple years... I didn't even want to witness what you did, so I just forgot about/ignored it.
I sat through vids posted above. I can't blame Dave for trying...Fortunately, Ed plays like the guy we grew up on again. Just older. You can't be 22 again...sigh.

All I have herd is tatoo and It sux IMHO . Tired licks and a really crappy melody . You guys say the rest of the cd is good I'll take your word for it . ED is and always has been a prick so I won't support him
