Anyone here ever had a chance to compare the two side by side? Looking for something that will go from ACDC to Alice in Chains. All the comments about the Comp being bright and aggressive scares me away from thinking it will do the ACDC/Kix plexi type sounds.

I am in the same boat. I want a 50 watt Slawn head and I don't need a dedicated clean channel. I play similar music, classic rock to hard rock and grunge. I was going to order an SR head, but I can get by easily if the gain cleans up well. We only play like one or two songs where I need instant clean, like Torn by Creed. I could probably get by without the clean channel. Plus, it is cheaper than the Street Rod head. I would bet they can sound almost identical.

The Comp can be bright and aggressive if you want it to but the tone controls are very effective and I've found it to be responsive to changes in the instrument signal.
A BOSS LS-1 is very handy with the Competition to create a switchable and completely clean channel.

Boss LS-1? What about the LS-2? I have not used either but howwould that work to provide a clean channel? Honestly I could play everything with Competition and some pedals with my 90s band. As long as the pedalboard for the Comp has the options to switch gears, modes and solo boost, and then just use guitar volume for clean.
