I bought a new Musicman Axis guitar with the Gotoh Floyd. Awesome playing guitar, but the tremolo set-up does not seem to stay in tune very well. It is a dive-only tremolo. The tremolo bridge is parallel to the body, the nut is tight, but still after using the bar only a little, it goes out of tune and it is not consistent. Sometimes all the strings are flat, sometimes they are sharp! What areas do I need to look at to resolve this? Has anyoe else had this problem?

Tighten the springs in the back with a screwdriver. Make sure they are pulling the bridge as far back as it goes firmly. Check intonation also. When intonation is off, guitar will sound out of tune sharp or flat depending on what note or chord.

Stretch new strings before you tune up.

I just bought a new axis and was having those problems too. My other axis takes a beating and never goes out of tune
I took some super duper fine sandpaper and sanded my saddles for the e b and g strings. I had little tiny burrs or something on there that I found by pushing the string back and forth right where it lays in the saddle. I could feel something pinging the string.
Once I folded up my piece of sandpaper I simply sanded the saddle where the string laid in there and it's been fine ever since. Hard to believe just a tiny bit of groove in those saddles would do that

So I tightened the springs in the tremolo cavity. Tuning a lot better, but the 3 high strings still a little flat from time to time? Does this mean I need to tighten only the spring on the treble side a little more? Thx Kev

I always keep the spring claw parralel (even) to the edge of cavity. You should tighten both screws a little more and your problem should be solved.

Had practice last night and decided to use the Musicman guitar. High strings still going out of tune without even using the tremolo bar, specifically the G string!! Lordtoneking, I will check the saddles for burrs and try tightening the springs a bit more. The bridge is definitely sitting on the body, checked the screws holding on the neck to see if they are tight. Everything good there. Frustrated Kev

Does it have a locking nut or locking tuners? If it's locking tuners maybe the windings are not tight around the pegs? Just a thought good luck.

Check the string saddles on the Floyd. I've seen guitars come out of the factory (not just Music Man) with string saddles that were not fully tightened. They only have to wiggle or move a bit and you'll be out of tune. While you're doing that, you may as well check intonation and adjust if needed.

Hey LordToneKing, thanks for the tip regarding the burrs in the saddles. I too, could hear a little "ping" in the saddle for the B string. I tried what you said, using 600 grit sandpaper, I sanded the saddles for all three high strings and now the tuning seems a lot better, but still not perfect. I tightened the springs a little more and will find out Wed night at band practice to see if it is OK! I checked the screws holding the neck to make sure they were tight and they were. I also checked the two hexcap screws holding the nut assembly and they were a little loose, so I tightened them as well. Any other suggestions? Thx Kev
