I really think I want to do the Streetrod head and 212 cab rather than the combo and 112 cab. I have just always been more of a head guy because there are times I like to bring my head to a jam and use the cabs there and I like to mix and match my heads and cabs to get different sounds.
So, I emailed Scott and he said they can do their standard 212 Splawn cab in a semi open back format! I think I am going to go that route with either a QR or SR head.
Very nice to have a company with such personal attention.
I wonder if they would be willing to make me a semi open back if I picked up a used Splawn 212.
I probably won't be able to get my Splawn rig till next year. I am trying to score a new Strat first and then the Splawn head and cab next year.
Only thing I have to think through is the one issue with 212 cabs. They can be hard to hear on stage. Slant 412s are easier but I hate the weight. A vertical 212 is a good option, especially if the top is slanted but vert 212 cabs never sound right to me. I also think slant top 412 cabs are too bright and not full enough, so I tend to stick with the standards so I think the Splawn 212 with semi open back could be good match.
