Saw one of those "guitar and amp for sale" ads on local cl yesterday and clicked it. Usually you click these and get a squire strat pack or ibanez gio or something, but for 200 bucks I got a BRAND NEW Sterling John Petrucci signature model as well as one of those Fender G-DEC practice amps. I figured it was a good deal and could easily sell the guitar later and make a profit and still end up with a kind of cool novelty practice amp. The guitar seems solid as a rock, excellent setup, fit/finish. 24 frets, locking tuners. The only downer is the pickups. A quick p-up change will surely transform this thing into an excellent beater for practice and travel...I'll post pics as soon as Im home this afternoon. Anyone ever play one of these things btw?

Much as I wish they didn't exist (they've kind of devalued and confused the American EBMM line, I think) that looks better than it should!
I'm also hearting your rough 'n' ready hot pink cab.

Yeesh.....make me feel like a terrorist why don't ya! Nah, its a remarkably good guitar, especially for the paltry price tag. I've never worked with anything in the sterling family except for the stingray basses and those were just excellent once setup properly. I primarily bought it with the intention to flip it but after playing it for a couple days I have become a bit attached. The tremolo works really well and doesnt yank the thing out of tune, the extra frets are fun and the fretwork is superb, no sharp edges really nice crowns and a really comfy joint and belly/hand contours. The worst of it is the pickups. With a set of good pickups I dont see why this wouldnt be as good as as a much much higher end guitar. It is definitely better than the LTD's which I have worked with and on extensively in the past few years now. Any recommendations Gray? I believe its basswood? I have a bunch of randoms laying around but its mostly stock crap from EMG and some old Gibby 496's and maybe a SH-13 leftover from tour. That pink cab has been around the block! Weber 55hz H30's and Celestion CL-80's!
