Hey guys, what are the thoughts on the Splawn 212 cabinet? I am looking to get a Quickrod and would like a matching cab. I have experience with low to the ground cabs and I find they can be hard to hear on stage. So I have been using a Bogner oversized 212 with a semi open back.
The other thought is maybe the vertical 212, but is that the same size as the 212 horizontal? If so, the head would hang off the sides.
Thanks for any input.

Call Scott. He has some 2x12 configurations that aren't on the web site.

Nah, he said just the standard 212. Anyone with experience with it?

i have a lift off road case for my QR, i always put that on the bottom, the 2x12 on top and the QR on top of that. gets the cab off the floor 12-15 inches. makes a big difference.
just got a splawn 2x12 in a roadcase, so i'll soon find out how big of a difference the cab being on the bottom is, haha
on that note, gotta get my other roadcase listed for sale on here......

That would work but I like taking less to a gig, not more. Even when we played big shows, I never used any case for my amps.

I use a homemade 2x12 combo with a QR and1 big and 1 small block. Love it! When I show up at the Whiskey they say "there is that amp again!" The keys player and my chick say it blows other amps away. Splawn cab is the best deal out there unless you want a "vintage" piece. Be ready, the bass response is BIG.
Have fun!

Speedemon, so you think the Splawn 212 cab is the way to go? I am afraid it will be hard to hear on stage because it is short. I am thinking of ordering a Stone Age 212C since it is taller and with a slight slant to the front baffle, plus I can run it with a semi open (Narrow opening) in the back for a bigger sound with more spread. I would be puting Splawn speakers into the Stone Age cabinet.

Hey Richedie!
If you have the amp at your feet and need to hear it, the slant of course will help! lol The only time I needed to really crank it was the time I had to compete with 2 full stacks, bass and drums with my QR and a 4x12 (before I did the combo cab). I couldn't hear drums, I got lost about 4x that gig. Deaf for 2 days in spite of earplugs.
I didn't like the open back sound with my Splawn, so we put a door on the back of my combo, but it was stupid loud.
I am seriously considering getting another cab made for my "Quickbreaker" with an angled baffle, for the same reason. Not a problem with the metal band, but I can see it being helpful when you need to keep it low.
The Stone Age cab looks like a good product. I have one of those South Bay Amps (Scumback) 2x12s with a Weber and Scumnico, it works great too. I had a Kress 2x12 that I sold to another poster here. Hard to go wrong with made in the USA! Main thing with the Splawn cab is that it's a bargain; a great cab with great speakers for relatively cheap.
Good luck and happy Splawning!

I once heard someone say the first thing they do with any new cab is take the back feet off. It's a pretty quick slanted baffle.

I hear ya Speedemon, but was your cab open back or semi open back? Big difference. My dilemma is I have no desire to lug around a 412 any longer even though I have a Marshall 412 right now. I was considering keeping the 412 just in case and then just having two 212 cabs, one to go with the Splawn and one to go with the bogner and PWE...and I would get rid of my little THD. But, in reality, I more enjoy lugging around a 212 and with a semi open back, they sound just as big as a 412, and the slanted baffle helps. I might do the Stone Age 212C and install Splawn Small Blocks since I really like that design and is only $67 more than the Splawn cab. On the other hand, the Splawn 212 is deeper than what I have and Scott will build it with a vent or port on the back to open it up and allow spread on stage.
To me, the easiest was to hear yourself on stage if you don;t have monitors, is a slant top 412 or a slant top 212, but I never like how vertical 212 cabs sound, something changes with the low end I don't like.

why can't you just hike it up on top of something? That is what I do. That would give you the projection you are looking for. Taking off the back feet might help too - I'll have to try that. I don't gig buy I have small blocks in my cab and it is an awesome cab. I had an Avatar 212 closed back before this one and I thought it was good too but these Splawn cabs rock for the price.

I don't want to have to lug something to a gig just to lift a cab off the ground. I am always trying to find ways to bring less, not more. I thinik the Stone Age 212C is better designed so I will just get that one.

I never thought of that...although I never had problems hearing myself with my splawn 2x12 back in my gigging days... but..it doesn't look as if he's getting a splawn cab anyway so this is all academic like..lol
