lol @ Cecil... and didn't Motley Crue die about 5 times collectively between the four of them over the years? Just amazes me that he keeps such a positive outlook on life...I'm really interested in his documentary film coming out next year...probably won't be a dry eye in the house... I always knew he was good but I never really listented to him...I just remember reading about him geting ALS in guitar FTPM when I first started playing back in the early 90s...something about that first benefit concert fast forward to now I heard this song from him on pandora and it immediately put him in the forefront of my mind again..and I can't get him or his situation these past two decades out of my head

Good on ya, Shreder. Becker is one of the most inspirational people of his generation.

The guy was amazing. Perpetual Burn is one of my all time favorite albums.. by anyone. The fact he did it when he was 17 is almost unbelievable. He was doing prog-y/fusion-y metal way better and way before guys like Lane, Howe and Petrucci.. his technique and compositional skill was light years beyond Gilbert.. which is almost unfathomable. (Don't believe me, listen to "Air")
Ever notice how people with extraordinary brain and/or physical skills seem to have a depilating disease or affliction at a young age? ie.. JFK, Stephen Hawking, Jason Becker, Beethoven, Mario Lemeiux etc etc...

What happened to Mario Lemeiux?
Anywho..it's just a damn shame...guy was destined for greatness hitting the mainstream with DLR and BAM...diagnosed with ALS...still finished the album though..and he kept playing till he had no strength left...
I've been listening to Go Off! alot lately...frigging outrageous playing

The first time I heard him was on the first Cacophony album. I really couldn't believe that a 16-year-old kid could blow Marty Friedman away technically, but that's exactly what I discovered. His playing on "Concerto" (I think that was the name of the 4th track) and "Speed Metal Symphony" was beyond incredible. The two of them together had something really special on those albums. . .

I read an interview with Marty where he said they would write together and it would take a week or longer for Marty to even begin to be able to play the parts and Becker could have any of it perfected inside of an hour. I think it was special too.. it was the beginning of the emergence of 2 really beautiful musicians who hadnt really found their voices yet.. Of course I think Becker got it on Perpetual Burn and was expanding it with DLR which would have been a fantastic showcase for his skills. DLR said in his book he was the best player he ever played with and it most likely would have resulted in several killer albums before he left for another project.. of course Marty did arguably the best metal album ever.. I think those 2 playing together resulted in some of the best metal guitar ever recorded.
I'm huge Mario fan.. he had cancer, a ton of strange ailments etc at a very young age. He could score 5 goals and beat the sh!t out of a guy,, but couldn't bend over to tie his skates or even dress himself. Luckily he lived through it all but having played less then half the games of Gretkzy its clear he was the greatest of all time. I feel that way about Becker too..
