Hey guys....
I want to get a 412, it has been 5 years since owning a 4121 and man do I miss it in all its glory. Ever since getting rid of my 412 and going the 112 and 212 route, I have not been 100% satisfied.
With that in mind.....can;t I just grab a used Marshall 1960b cab and replace the speakers and wire? I mean I never notice huge differences in cabs from one to the next if at least made half decent.
I also tend to favor V30 speakers, especially Hellatone (V30) 60s. How are these with Splawns?
By the way I play at home, jam sessions with friends and the once in a while gig....
Thanks!

Mate,
Me and the young bloke built a couple ourselves ! But if you buy a 2nd hand good quality built cab, then you can change out the speakers to suit yourself ! He has WGS HP Reaper 50's in one cab - Sounds Awesome and he has (aussie made) Lorantz 75's in the other cab - Sounds Awesome - Fairdinkum mate, together these cabs with the quickrod sound Bloodybeauty, a real real unique metal rock sound LOUD

You don't "need" anything in particular to play your amp on. IF you want to slay all guitars in your state and any visiting ones, you should go for the Splawn cab UNLESS, you think the Vintage 30 speaker is the greatest thing since sliced bread...Nearly any celestion and a lot of eminences are gonna sound "good".
Have fun!

Well, with my amps...nothing sounds as good as Hellatone V30s. But I want the Greenbacks in a Marshall 412 so I might go that route or the new Celestion Lynchbacks which rock!!!
A cab is a cab, the audience can't tell the difference....I'll just get a used Marsha

I had a Marshall 1960a cab w/V30s and G12H30s when I first got my Splawn. I decided to go with the hype of the Splawn cabs and the Small Blocks. I actually thought the amp sounded great through the Marshall cab, but was curious if it could be even better. I sold the Marshall cab and had to do one show with a friends stock Marshall cab and I hated it. Very harsh! The Splawn cab is built extremely well and I am glad I have it. But to be honest, that Marshall I had did sound really good and although I am sure there are some differences (I wasn't able to A/B) I wouldn't say the Splawn immediately blew me away as being worlds apart better. I guess all that says....yeah grab a cheap Marshall and put some different speakers in it. I don't think I would do all V30s though.

I think it has way more to do with the speakers. I bet that Marshall would have sounded very much like the Splawn with the same speakers.
My Bogner and Event Horizon sound perfect, thick and warm with all V30s, broken in!
I want something with Greenback type speakers so might order a Splawn and install some Greenbacks or get a 212 Splawn and install some Celestion Lynch backs which are like higher powered GBs! I don't own a Splawn yet but might by the fall. The Lynchbacks should kill with the Streetrod!

I found a deal locally on a Mesa Boogie Vert Rectifier cab! Maybe this with Scumbacks will slay with a Streetrod!

I think cabs do make different "colors" for your tone but as long as its a decent build and decent quality speaker you'll be fine. Lots of people don't like v30s with quick rods but in my mesa rec and road king cabs I love the tone. The road king cab is a match made in heaven actually. But I agree my marshall 1960 vintage cab is way to trebly/harsh. I have an older gov/mow splawn cab that matches my amp and I do feel the cabinet is a perfect match for the amp. The cab is extremely well built, speakers are voiced great, x pattern for wider spectrum, best of all a great value. If you buy a marshall and speakers you could have found a used splawn cab for less. Just my 2 cents but I really doubt you would regret getting a splawn cab after you gig with one

I had a chance to try my buddy's Marshall 412 with Celestion V30/T-75 mix and man is sounded great! Might do that! Real smooth and versatile! Sounded absolutely amazing! This was with my Bogner and PWE! Not sure about with a SPLAWN.
I need to find a way to shave some weight off the 412, thinking of replacing the rear MDF back with a plywood back and maybe doing it 3/4 back.
Also loving my V30/CL-80 mix!

My only complaint is that Splawn does not have a slight tilt on the front baffle like Marshall and Bogner. It helps hearing it live.

Biggest thing for me is since I share cabs between amps, I need a mix of speakers that strike a balance. V30/CL-80, V30/G12H30, V30/G1265, V30/G12T75 for exmple.
