Anybody know anything about the music scene in southwest Florida? Just got a new/better job offer in Fort Myers and was wondering if anybody on the site knows if there are any good Rock clubs or venues to check out. I've been living outside of Dallas, TX for the last eleven years and we have tons of live music and bars to play at or see shows. Am I in for a culture shock or what? Are my guitars gonna rust being that close to the ocean

We are glad you got a great job! Sorry it is in FL. Stay clear of the justice system there!
Congrats!

Yeah, I'm originally from Louisiana, so the Florida justice system couldn't be that much worse!

Its beautiful down there.. as close to the Caribbean life as you'll get in the USA.. short of Key West. Theres not much of a rock scene per se, but plenty of places to play if your versatile. I had a house gig on Marco Island for a year back in '99 and it was awesome, played around Naples, Cape Coral, Venice and Fort Meyers up and down the coast in the early 2000's.. but all the rock and metal is across Alligator Alley in Ft Lauderdale, north to Tampa or up here in Orlando.

Looks like most of the action is either in Ft.Lauderdale or Tampa from what I've been able to gather.I'm a big fan of the caribbean life so looking forward to that aspect. I've only been to Florida 1 time (Panama City Beach) and it was pretty cool. As far as versatility I play classic rock, 80's rock/metal and some newer rock and metal. Guess I might need to learn some top 40 and pop tunes to get a gig in that area. The wife and kids are gonna fly down and I have to drive cause I refuse to have my gear shipped down(ain't nobody touchin my gear but me). It's an 11 hour drive from Dallas to Pensacola and then another 8-9 hours down to Fort Myers.

I lived in Fort Myers a while back. What DC said is totally correct. There are places to play but versatility will be key......

So sad, the real estate lady said my bedroom looks like a rock concert and suggested I move all my stuff into the closet. Had to put away the pedal board,4x12 cab and Quickrod to make the room look bigger. Will be living in an apartment in Fort Myers until we sell the house in Texas and find a new house in Florida. Could be many months until I get to play the Quickrod again. Looks like I will be jamming on the Blackstar HT-20 for the foreseeable future.
