Ok I know just enough to get me in trouble, so here goes,
Just bought another 59SLP Splawn Modded Marshall that was listed as having 34's in it. Got the amp and it had KT88's. Ok, I had to open the amp because one of the input jacks came loose and fell in the amp so I decided to check Bias. 88's were sitting at 32ma, so I went to adjust and the max was 37ma. Hummm so I try some 34's and the max I get is 17ma.
I don't know what the bias resistor looks like but I know enough not to poke around in there. By my findings would you say that the resistor has ben changed and these are cold Sovtec 88's. If my memory is correct....duh I thought I read that converting to 88's you dont want to bias them any hotter then a 34, that would make sense that they were sitting at 32ma.

Ok so I had another older set of Sovtec 88's laying around, 1 of those older tubes was able to get up in the range that is recomended 42-57ma. So my guess is they are cold old mismatched tubes. So I'm guessing Splawn modded these amps to 88's, because the previous owner of my other one had changed it over to 34's.
