Hey everyone, I'm new here, just got a SR a couple of weeks ago, still getting to know it. So far I really like it. I hooked up my Bogner 2x12 cab to it, sounds great. I do wish I didn't have to disconnect the SR speaker though. Would love to hear what you guys are doing if you want to add more speakers and have correct ohms. I'm also am frustrated that the footswich can not switch gears. All 3 gears are very usefull. I like to use 1st gear for bluesy tones & 2nd for 80's rock stuff & so on. Would like to know want you guys do for that in a live setting. Thanks Tom

Use a switching system. There are many available. Then you can have 2 adjoining gears, OD1/OD2 and boost in any combo.

Ok thanks for the advise. Does the switching system take the place of the splawn footswitch?

Welcome aboard Tom.
There are some detailed threads/explanations on how to footswitch gears (including modding the footswitch) in the Quick Rod subforum. Look through there or Search on it. If you don't find it let us know.
On the cab thing, you may want to ask Josh at Splawn at josh@splawnguitars.com At a minimum you can daisy chain another cab on and run two cabs (cut ohms in half).
Post a pic too......sexy amp cheers

Unless your other cab/cabs equal 16 ohm you will need to disconnect the combo's speaker. I have a 1x 12 extension cab and a marshall cab both are 16 ohm and they would be ok to use with your internal speaker amp set at 8 ohm. If you had a 2x12 with 2x8ohm speakers running series that would work to get you to 16ohm. I have a SPLAWN 2x12 I will be selling because I cannot use it along with my Streetrod. It must total 16 ohm in the 2nd jack.

For now I'll just leave the stock speaker disconnected and reconnect if i dont want to lug my 2x12. I am considering replacing the stock speaker with an 8ohm speaker, then select 4 ohms on the amp, that should work with all three speakers too, right?

If your other cab is 8 yes. But you're going to (gasp) replace the small block? I just don't think they are replaceable by anything but themselves! Personally I would just use the street rod the way it is. I used to think I had to have a wall of cabs but am finding out even in large clubs (700+ people) a combo works fine.Nobody cares how it looks anymore I'm discovering.

I don't dislike the stock speaker, it sounds fine, and I don't necessarily want a wall of cabs. I just happen to have, IMHO one of the best sounding 2x12 cabs around. Plus I like the bigger sound of a 2x12. Is there an 8ohm version of the small block?

I basically use the SR as if it were a single channel amp -- the gain channel. I run a Boss GT 10 thru the loop and use the Amp Ctl switch on the Boss to kick in the Solo boost. I don't even use the Splawn footswitch.
If I need clean, I roll back the guitar volume. If need more gain or a different gain character, I can use Overdrive, Compression, or EQ on the GT-10 to supplement my SR settings. If I really need to change the tonal character for a song, then I'll switch gears. But I find that I don't need that functionality within a song, so I don't need it to be footswitchable. Playing in a cover band, I don't think there's a lot of music that goes from a 2nd Gear vibe (JCM800) to a 1st Gear vibe (Plexi) within the same song.

I play in a band that covers Beach Boys to Metallica to B-52s to Rainbow to Katy perry.
I use every bit of options available. That's one of the reasons I chose Splawn for an amp. More options than SLO or Shiva. (couple amps I tried first) I'll Switch from clean or clean /w/ chorus to 1st or 2nd gear depending on song and boost or boost /w/OD2 for high gain leads. We click songs right off and there's no time to meander back to my amp and change a switch for gear change.

Adding additional speakers to a combo kind of defeats the purpose of having a combo...doesn't it? Anyway... If you want to add speakers, I'd consider purchasing the head cabinet and relocate the chasis. This turns it into a head and gives you more flexibility.

Hi all, Thanks for all your input, greatly appreciated. I haven't been on the forum for a while so let me tell you whats been going on with the SR. It wasn't real important to add the 2x12 to the combo, just thought it would be great to have the ability to go from one 12 to three 12's and back. I don't think it would defeat the purpose of the combo, because it would still be a 1x12 combo when I wanted it to be. Also when I first got the amp I did like the tone of the bogner cab better. But after playing with the nobs for a while I had grown to love the small block speaker, and decided to leave it just as is. Here's where it gets weird. So I go to a big jam at a bar. Everyone's googly eyed at SR, they love the tone. So towards the end of the night, one guy says, hey whats that, Can I use it? I say sure. He says, I play clean. so I put the clean channel on and he does a couple of songs. When he's done he says his guitar stopped working. I didn't think anything of it, packed up and went home. The next day I go to play and I get no sound. After process of elimination. You guessed it. The speaker is blown. It wasn't his guitar. So I call Splawn to get a new speaker. They don't have any and it will be a few weeks to get one. So Josh at Splawn tells me there's another speaker they sometimes use that sounds very much like the original. They have it in stock, and it comes in 8 ohms. Got it yesterday, went in today. Sounds great! I can't hear a difference. I guess in a side by side you could. Also while talking to Josh I mention I wished I could change gears on the fly, but don't really want to get into switching systems. He tells me they started making 4 button switches to replace the 3 button, so you can change gears. Got that too. Needless to say, I got what I wished for. Funny how things workout sometimes. Sorry for being so long winded. Only way to tell the story.
