Well Scott and his guys built me an awesome looking street rod and extension cab rig. Josh Sage got me hooked with the details necessary for Splawn to create my highly anticipated rig.. And Splawn even got it to me on time for a certain deadline.
So this story up to now is perfect.....
But that is where it changes completely....
Enter Fed-Ex...
My rig arrived packed in boxes with Splawn's names on the outer boxes.
And both the boxes though they only had to travel one day about 3 to 3.5 hours look like they came from HELL.
Holes punched into and through them.... The bottom damage to the amp box was/is a forklift fork signature. I was so tripped by the look of the boxes, I made the Fed-Ex guy take note and then went home for the day and did not even open the boxes. I would have thought the rig was destroyed based on my past experiences with how other amp companies pack products.
So I took the amp and ext. cab out to take a look the next day and take digital pics of the boxes inside and out, and the foam Splawn packed the stuff in.
WOW! Splawn packs their stuff the best.
The foam was mortally/fatally wounded if were talking humans here. The box the amp was in had been dropped BIG TIME. The top right front corner was smushed in severely. The amp had hit hard enough to mash the rubber feet into the foam on the right bottom into the foam almost 1 inch..
But I was hopeful the stuff would be alright.
I talked to Josh and Josh from Splawn and informed them on where things were... So last night one week from the day they arrived I brought them home and turned stuff on and played it.
Man, the amp while it seems to be quiet, is very bass heavy.. No dialing it out. very muddy, and unclear.... This sounds like power tubes to me..
The treble control does not seem to do anything. The overdrive is very fizzy and phony sounding... This sounds like pre amp tubes to me..
The tranny inside on the right facing the amp is crooked due to one of the brackets bent to hell and the outer cover of the tranny is smushed in/dented like when a guy kicks a car door when he is mad.
I have about 3 small cosmetic things going on also.
I look at this rig and know how much time these guys all spent trying to help me including Josh Sage.
It breaks my heart that people that don't care like Fed-Ex can ruin something like this. Not to mention I don't want to end up with a rig that looks like it is less than B stock gear.
I only own the best gear, function and cosmetics wise. I know the guys will most likely do what we need to to cure this but what an extra amount of hassle now.
I will hopefully try some different tubes tomorrow in hopes that that is the sound/tone issue.... The bent up tranny etc... well I don't know?
What I could use if any of you do not mind is some settings you use and what tones you get from them..
I know bad sound from good but have no experience with the street rod on capabilities...
I would be SO GRATEFUL if you could provide these details. does this amp have a similiar cut like the Quickrod? A sharpness to it's tone if dialed in just like the QR. ?? Thanks again and Stay Tuned...........
