Hey, all. Can I just pop in el34's and rebias my kt88 nitro? I'm not sure I'm gonna want to, just feeling out my options. My amp gets here Thursday - can't wait! Also - my amp and splawn 2x12" have had the splawn logos removed - is there any way to get a couple logos to put back on? I really like the logo, and would like my splawn to say splawn on it!!

Call splawn and ask if they can get you extra logos.
From what I understand you can switch a kt88 nitro to el34's but I don't know the procedure to do it correctly. You should ask while you're inquiring about the logos.

Hey, all. Can I just pop in el34's and rebias my kt88 nitro? I'm not sure I'm gonna want to, just feeling out my options. Yes and Maybe. If you just pop in any old pair of EL34s in your KT88 equipped Nitro and try to bias properly, You most likely won't be able to get them hot enough unless they happen to be a really warm set of tubes. I have my Competition modded to accept KT88s(very easy, one piggyback resistor). I ordered a warm pair of KT77s from Eurotubes with a number rating of 46 and they are warm enough bring up to the proper bias level. A few weeks ago I decided to put in a pair of EL34s I had lying around to see what they sounded like. They had a #40 written on top of them. Popped them in and tried to bias but could not get them hot enough. I could only get them up to 24ma. So they are running on the cold side but they still sound good so I left them in. They may sound even better if I had them biased to the proper level or maybe not. I'm not really in the mood to remove the piggyback resistor, so I might order a pair of warm EL34 in the future.

Thanks for all the great info, there. I'm probably jumping the gun - I may love the KT88's anyway! Always been an EL34 guy in the past, but some more bottom end would be welcome. Thanks, y'all!

bottom end is probably the last thing you will be lacking with the Nitro.

I'm pretty sure you would have to do a slight mod to one of the resistors in the amp to change from 88's to 34's. I think there's a DIY step by step instruction on how to do this in one of the threads, but I can't remember if it's on how to go from 88's to 34's or the other way around. If you really want to do it... I would suggest you call Scott.

Great read! Fastredponycar's YouTube vids are keeping me company while I wait - it should be here after work today. I hope I like the amp as-is so I don't have to mess with resistors and such! Thanks, y'all - I'm sure I'll have tons more questions, and everyone has been very helpful!
