Oh no, there's no extra charge. I've done it before once for myself and it worked well. You'll be the first customer to have it done.
Package arrived just now via UPS, so I will work on it this weekend. Shouldn't take long...

Loose Cannon, if you PM me your mailing address, I will mail you a .001 capacitor that's taken out of a YJM308. Lord knows I have enough of them... Maybe a chip change might be in order. I would try a 1458 chip. I never tried this, but maybe a JRC4559 chip would do well. Thanks for the kind offer John! However, I live in Israel and I wouldn't want you to pay the international shipping charges, so i'll just buy a cap here and try it out. Regarding the chip- mine is an 83' so it has the 351 chip, all of the other componets are identical to the grey. It does have the extra .25pf cap. Honestly I don't know if there's something wrong with mine because i've never compared it with other 250's...

Just PM me your mailing address. It's not going to cost a lot to send you a capacitor! I've sent stuff for free to people in Finland, Peru, Serbia, New Zealand, Japan, etc. I like being able to do nice things for people.

OK, just finished it up. I'll post a photo later. I positioned the toggle above and in between the control knobs, that is where I normally put an LED. Since this already has an LED near the logo, having the switch there works well particularly as I wanted to place it somewhere where it wouldn't be knocked easily. Left is .01 input cap, right is .001. Shipping it on Tuesday. I was thinking I was going to ship it tomorrow, but tomorrow is President's Day and so that means it's a holiday that everyone has to work except for bank tellers, teachers and post office employees. So I will definitely get it out on Tuesday! EDIT:

How's it change the sound changing the cap?

More low end with the .01 cap. That can be a concern with humbuckers where it gets a bit muddy. I play my Blackmore Strat the most lately and with the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups, the .001 cap balances out the thickness of these pickups. .001 sounds great with the Quarter Pounds.

Pedal arrived yesterday and ran it through the QR last night. Awesome, awesome improvements ! The pedal sounds way better with humbuckers now and the hiss/noise level is now along the lines of all my other OD pedals. I will get to gig with it in a few weeks and thats the real test but if first impressions are any good than this thing is a home run.
Thanks John !

Thank you for the kind words. I couldn't be more grateful or humbled. It's always nice to know when someone appreciates one's efforts. As I'd said before, the first time I'd modified one of these for a customer, I had my fingers crossed and thought, "Man, I really hope he hears what I think I'm hearing..." If no one minds, I'd also like to share what I think is some interesting and good news. I just got a supply of 1970s NOS RCA LM741CN chips. These have been long out of production and are very difficult to find. If my feedback is anything to go by, I've had good results with the LM741CN chips I've used to this point. But what this means for us is that this RCA LM741CN is the actual chip that is in what I consider the benchmark of the DOD 250 variants, Yngwie's № 1 gray 250. That pedal was what I sought to emulate and finally in combination with other OOP NOS parts, I feel like I've nailed down the final missing detail. I did a lot of hunting for these for years: phone calls, emails, internet searches and came up empty-handed. As I only have a limited supply, unfortunately, I will not be parting these out or selling them separately. They will only come with the complete modification or with the sale of a fully-modified pedal. And once they're gone, they may well be it, so if you've thought about getting one of these pedals modified or purchasing one, now might be the time. I'll build one pedal for myself with this chip, keep probably two or three and the rest are going into customers' pedals. Please understand that I am not trying to hype this up. I want to be able to offer this as I think it's something that's fairly cool and truthfully, I'm pretty excited about it. Also, prices remain the same. So there's no extra for these.

John, if you're here on one of your sporadic visits, I have an old friend of Yngwie's in Sweden who'd love to get an Outlier 308. Let me know the best way to put him in touch with you.

LOL! Here I am... I do apologize for not checking in more often. Loooong story short, I've had a lot on my plate lately and with work and everything, I'd let a few things escape my notice, unfortunately. He can contact me at YJM308MODS@hotmail.com or outlier1864@yahoo.com. It wouldn't be Yngwie, would it? Nah, he's in Florida... Still have a supply of the RCA chips, FWIW.

Heh, I can't blame you for not obsessively checking the Splawn forum when you don't play Splawn! No worries. I had already passed on the Hotmail address, but those are a bit shaky so I don't know if he got through to you. Will forward the Yahoo addy.
If it was Yngwie looking to sound good again, I'd have given him my pedal.
Maybe.

Haha! Yeah, sometimes I think Hotmail is overzealous with their spam filter. I know for a fact that occasionally, some emails have not made it as far as the Spam folder even. Just never got them... I like checking in here as there is good discussion of various topics. I just need to more often! Been working so much lately, etc. I'm also building a Hornby-Skewes treble booster copy for my Blackmore obsession. I am not using the exact same transistor as I don't want to get into positive grounds and since it's for myself, I figure it should be OK. I should post photos when it's done. Been reading up on Trower's old gear too. He used a custom-made boost and a Dan Armstrong Red Ranger. I was thinking that I should try building one of those RRs too. No doubt Trower used some kind of boost. I think it's especially evident on Victims of the Fury. You can hear that the wah is getting hit hard with signal. It's not just a Strat, there's a boost there, definitely. If forced to guess, I'm going to say it's a single transistor boost circuit. Maybe something like an Alembic Stratoblaster with some mods.

I had the baked mod Keeley ( cool pedal, sold it )and the BB pre/Tube Factor/ Fulltone ( all of em ) bla bla bla and feel I'm pretty firm on the EVO 250 I have on my pedal board, its in a YJM 308 package that I bought from John wayyy back. It still KILLS as thee best CLEAN boost for my Egnater Vengeance and soon to be delivered to my door, the 2012 version QuickRod with 4 button footswitch, cant wait. )pics posting soon as well as clips running BOTH heads together through Wizard cabs. I think the QuickRod with El34B's and the Eggy with 6L6's, cool blend of BOTTOM Marshally tone from the Egnater and Organic brown richness from the QuickRod will be a scary combination of heads
