Lately I had been thinking about picking up another DR. I had one for 8 years until I bought my Nitro. Still have 2 Mesa cabs and a bunch of Mesa swag ( their gig bag/gym bags are awesome for hauling cables, pedals etc... I love them.) I am a big fan of Mesa build quality. Those things are made for war.
Im filling in for a Godsmack tribute this weekend and used the guitar players two channel DR at rehearsal through a Mesa 4x12. The old two channel amps smoke the three channel models like the one I had.
It sounded ok but I will never, ever consider buying one again as my Nitro eats that thing in spades. Nitro has way more low end and honestly sounds way more modern than a DR. Even with a Ts9 and a Flying Dragon in front of the DR I could not get the balls of my Nitro out of the DR.
This is old news for most on this board but if someone is considering converting from Mesa to Splawn or torn between the two I can say without a doubt that the Nitro hands down the amp to buy. Period.

+1 I've played Mesa's before and I love their lead tones but they don't have the bite a Splawn has. I don't even own a Nitro. i got to play a bunch of Mesa's the other day (new DR, Roadster, T/A, Electradyne) and I came home and plugged into my Quick Rod and was reminded of why I went with Splawn

Amen to that! My Nitro has ruined a lot of good amps for me, Mesa's included...Nitro FTW!

I used to own both a QR and a DR. never could get the DR as tight as the QR even with a boost. They DO compliment each other in a band setting though. If i need to, i use a BBE Sonic Stomp for more low end from my QR. Makes it a bit more modern.

I owned 7 rects and none of them sounded as good as my qr and nitro, i always had to boost them but i finally figured out im not a recto guy.

Nitro has way more low end... To me, that's a HUGE negative. When I use my Rectos, I run the bass at 9:00 because it has so much low end, so you could imagine how well I liked an amp that had "much more." I had a Nitro and couldn't even use it. I like the QR much, much better.

Love my QR as well but Nitro is better for modern tones. I prefer my Nitro through open back cabs though..... the bass is a bit much with closed cabs at least to my ears.

I'm considering running a 2 head setup in the future. I have a nitro now and I'm saving for head 2. I'm torn between a bunch of good options but topping my list right now are a QR and Mark V. Tough choice for me. I love my splawn but I'm worried the qr is too similar. I'm thinking the mark V will lend some diversity to the rig.
I'd love to hear from people who've played or own both.

Another fantastic amp to have alongside a Nitro is the 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiva. It is very versatile and built like a bulldozer. It will do any tone you need with just a bit less low end than a Nitro. I am about ready to get another Nitro to go along with my Shiva.

I'll have to YouTube the hell out of that the way I did with splawn at first. I can't play any of these amps around here so I need to rely on others' opinions and clips/videos.
Thanks man

Played with a guy running a new "reborn" Dual Rectifier last weekend. I couldn't believe how much better my Nitro sounded and how much better I cut in the mix than he did. He said he was going to try to return his Mesa to Guitar Center and order a Splawn. \m/

So does the saturation and feel similar to a DR? I love jamming on Recto's ans I own a QR. What connects the Nitro to the Recto's for you guys?

Nitro is not voiced the same but it kicks you right in the pants and does not get all flubby. I loved the DR voicing but hated the lead sounds. The Nitro has the low mid kick and gives me great lead tones. If you like a DR then you will love a Nitro IMO.

A Nitro has all the things you love in a Recto without any of the annoying things that everyone hates about a Recto. It doesn't have any buzz in the high end or any flubby-ness or sag like a Recto. Blend a Mesa Mark IV with a Triple Recto then add a little Marshall mid-snarl and that is the Nitro.
