been playing guitar for 20 or so years and outside of my stint a rack setup (which went back into service after my recent Peavey, 3120, proved unreliable), I've been a Peavey guy going back to my first half stack (a Butcher). Honestly I've not been completely happy with the 3120. I am a metal player in a goth metal band (btw, check us out at www.angelicaltears.com ) and make no claims of being a blues or jazz guy - not enough to be THAT worried about covering those bases with an amp. I do find the 3120 to be a little much and was much happier when I switched to KT77s and put a 12DW7 in the V2 slot to bring the saturation levels down a little on channels 2 and 3 (don't really use the 3rd channel ) Anyway, because of reliablity issues, I am lookng at getting rid of the Peavey and stepping up to a better level of amp. Considered Mesa and Engl but I don't know that I'm really after that. Marshall's recent offerings haven't impressed me much. Balckstar's amps seem to be pretty nice. However, I cought some vids of the Nitro on youtube that REALLY impressed me. I want something that is really between the modern and more classic metal sound. The KT77s and the lower gain preamp tube in the Peavey gave me some of that but the 3120 isn't as clear as I'd like (sad to say, my Digitech GSP1101 through a Carvin TS100 is MUCH more clear and articulate) but the rack setup I am using lacks that all tube mojo. I really hate buying something sight unseen but the vids really impressed me. Any of you guys buy the Nitro on blind faith and are you still happy with it? Also which do you perfer - EL34 or KT88? Love the "brootalz" just don't like the fizziness of most of the newer amps. Here are some ideas of what kind of sound I am after and I do play 7 strings tuned down a half step: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_HwMrrJ4M4www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nmq1h5cQdk (guitars start at about :49) www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW5CXvBp9B4Hoping the Nitro can do this without a boost. I've heard they compare to the Bogner Uberschall - true? Thanks for your time

the nitro can pull that off easily and with a boost its even better i have kt88s in mine and love it, its not fizzy at all and i love how it hits me in the chest when chugging and its clear articulation for sweeps and leads
and for examples killswitch engage used them on thier new album and have been using them on tour sense and have some live songs on the record with them

I tried out a VHT Deliverance with KT88s and it sounded pretty massive but honestly, until the KT77s, I have mostly played 6L6 and EL34 based amps. Just saw the demos done by FastRedPonyCar on Youtube (great vids BTW)...about doubled me over with G.A.S. That is just one bad ass sounding amp and if this is a pretty accurate representation of what the nitro sounds like, it nails what I am looking for.

However, I am about willing to step out and do it based on what I've heard, and read alone. Maybe a little crazy....

The '10 Nitro I have now (2nd Nitro, use to own an '08) is the Biggest, Baddest amp I've ever plugged into...Period! And I've been chasing tone for many years. You can't go wrong with this beast if you want to roll some heads!!

Yeah, I want loosen bowels and crush skulls live Question, what seems the be the most popular speakers to use with this? Will go with a matching Splawn cab.

from what ive read everyone loves the sb i would love to have a cab with them tho i lack the money from my ears it sounds terrible with vintage 30's and many people agree if buying a splawn cab id say from what ive read an sound clips ive heard 4sb's or 2sb/2bb in an x pattern are the best way to go

After trying BB & SB X pattern and then all SB's I decided to stick with all SB's in the Splawn 4x12.

The Nitro is the answer to everything a a Dual Rec was not. It's the chugga chugga you dream of with great lead sounds that a DR cannot deliver.
I was converted in 2008. Sold my DR ( played it exclusively for 8 years) and the Nitro is still king.

I bought my nitro after seeing fastredponycar's vids and then finding and listening to every clip I could find.
This amp is incredible. You won't be disappointed.

I just got my KT88 Nitro earlier this year. It absolutely crushes. It may be because I own a Nitro that I think it is the best, but I don't think I've heard another amp that kicks this hard. It moves a lot of air with tons of low end. I have an avatar 4x12 cab with the K100's (I think that is their designation) and the chug from my 7-string is just killer. It makes the vitreous fluid in my eyeballs vibrate. It is loud, loud, loud! The articulation of the amp is great, you can get good note definition with no boomy sludge. It is the perfect mix of JCM900 Marshall and the more modern mid-scoop sounding amps. The Nitro is real aggressive sounding, too. It is a fire breather and that is why I love it!

Sold my DR ( played it exclusively for 8 years) and the Nitro is still king. I've tried the DR a couple of times and just can't seem to get into it (honestly, I don't really like the Mesa standard cabs - bottom end just sounds flabby to me). I did try a Single Rec through a Marshall 1960AV and it wasn't bad but still not my thing. That's really what I am after - something that will give me that chest thumping, lower mid thing but still sing when I play solos. So it looks like the Nitro really is gonna be it after the first of the year. Thanks for all the input!
