I love the "What did James say" video....side spliting funny Speaking of Mastodon, I saw them live this year and they are amazing, they are one of those bands who sounds very close to their records. Dethklok was the headliner and were equally awesome. And yes shreadheadhj, I'm with you, death metal growls are best! The ultimate DT lineup would include Mikael Akerfelt from Opeth doing vocals....makes me weak at the knees just thinking about it. Dude, Mastodon KILLSSS live! I have seen them 3 times ans they just friggin slayed. Opeth is amazing too. I saw them live and they were flawless, kind of like Porcupine Tree. Akerfelt is WAY to good of a songwriter to waste his time in DT. ;D |

Amish steak!! LOLOLOL! Yeah I don't know, I like the Mastodon vocals. They are technically not very good but it works IMO. It fits the music and isn't a bad effort for dudes who never were singers to begin with. Musically, the DT singer is impressive but suuuuuper cheesy. It's my most hated vocal style and unfortunately it's common in my favorite genre (prog metal). I'd rather listen to a Bob Dylan & Les Claypool duet, lol! oh GOD..bob dylan!!! YUK..lol  Dylan is teh Lyrical Master! |

I sorta agree with Don, DT's vocals are pretty cheesy and definitely not why I listen to them. On the other hand, when that last Mastadon album dropped all my Metal friends said it was like the best record ever and I fell for it... I HATE it.. lol. .. now the new Nevermore, Obsidian Conspiracy... now thats a great record. No cheesy vocals, angry, heavy and just tons of killer guitar. Craig, did you listen to Blood Mountain? It's less pretentious and more metal \m/. Leviathan is awesome too. I liked Crack the Skye a lot but I am a fan of spacey prog stuff and epic jamz. |

I wanted to like it. I just couldn't dig it.. I feel the same about Mars Volta.. I try to like it, I WANT to like it but I don't. I really love Protest The Hero though.. I feel like thats the next gen of tech/prog/metal/core whatever.. I dig them alot.

A friend put me onto them earlier this year and I bagged their albums in Philly. Some amazing, fresh stuff from those guys. Sometimes I feel like it's a bit too 'on' all the time, you know, exhausting, but when I'm in the mood there is just so much happening it's like a feast for the ears. The work that must go into a track is frightening. |

When Mars Volta came out with Deloused In The Comatorium I thought they were the future of prog rock. That album just blew my mind. Too bad each one after got progressively worse and now they are a joke. They needed Rick Rubin to keep them in line and not stray into 20 min of cricket chirping noise. WTF! PTH is good too. I need to hear more from them...which album? |

I've seen him perform many times and he kicks ass! You're right he can be a bit depressing though ;D regardless I say he rules. |

DT are even memorable when the songs aren't good. I still need to hear the newer Nevermore album. I think I'm gonna snag that one really soon now that it came up. Been burning myself out on Andromeda, Adagio, Extreme, and a few other bands lately. Tried to get back into Pagan's Mind, and they just fall short to my ears. |

Herpes and earthquakes... LOL....just kidding as far as pagan's mind goes..well, I guess we'll have to disagree on that one...I can understand the vocalist not being everyone's cup of tea, but in my humble opinion they're what DT coulda been if they didn't get rudess and go off into left field...Celestial Entrance and Enigmatic calling are, TO ME, better than anything DT's put out since Awake, song for song.... once again, just my opinion |
