OK guys, I have a Quick Rod and have been playing it through a Marshall 4x12 with four Celestion G12H30's in it. I sounds good but I just scored an Avatar Vintage 2x12 with two Celestion Heritage G12M's in it. I plan to pull those out and put them in my 4x12 since they are only 20 watts each. The questions are: 1. I want two more Celestion Heritage G12's to complete the cab but do I get M's or H's? (I'm leaning towards the H's). Yeah I know how expensive they are but I can but used ones. 2. With this 4x12 completed, would I ever need anything else for the Splawn? I could try two smallblocks in the 2x12 but would I ever use it when I have a killer 4x12 to play through? I don't play out so loading is not an issue. I was thinking that I could put some weber jensen copies in the 2x12 (it can be used open or closed back) for Fender clean stuff with my Mesa MK2C head. Any suggestions from the guys who have heard the heritage celestions and the smallblocks?

Hi Shawn,
damn, I thought you had been around this stuff for a while. I run two SBs in a combo with my QR, it sounds devastating. Celestions are cool in a 4x12, but they tend to break up a lot unless you run half power. I go half power with the combo, then 100w with the extension cab, got a Scumback H55 and Celestion G12T, works great. I always have the club mic a Small Block.
I had REAL G12H30s from '76 in a 1960A cab, they work cool, but not as cool as the Small Blocks.
So I would advise putting in the G12Ms to the 4x12, and getting 2 Small Blocks for the 2x12, then you will sound killer in both. Splatter has a pair for $135 for sale, and you can get them from Scott for $190.
Now, if I still had my JMP....
Seeya,
Dave

Thanks Speed. Yeah I been playing a QR since 2005 and know what they sound like with celestions. The reason I asked the questions is because I have never heard the small blocks. The forum guys that went to Splawn Con said that the Heritage G12M cab sounded better than any other cab there including the small block cab. I'm curious about the SB's but I don't know if I would ever use it if I have a Heritage loaded Marshall 4x12. I have had some real greenbacks and several clones so I know what they sound like. I haven't heard the Heritage G12H's although I have regular G12H's now so I thought I would ask. I found a big difference between all of the G12M's. I have a feeling they are what I need to compliment the G12M's. Anyway, thanks for the info Speed!
Anyone else?
