Ive notice lately that my SuperComp does not sound the same as when I 1st got it. Kinda like ass Not enough gain, too much bass and sounds like times the speakers are farting out. I don't feel like playing much anymore and its because I don't like what I'm hearing from my amp My settings are Res 9 oclock Pres 1 oclock Bass noon Mid noon Treb 3 to 4 oclock Gain at 3 oclock. There seems to be a lack of gain. All my other Splawns I have never turn gain past noon and had all the gain I needed but now it don't seem to be enough ! So I open the back to see what pre-tubes where installed.I'm thinking I need at least a pretube change. 12 AX7Bs all across. I've tried these before in my Splawns and did not like them at all Sounds like sh!t to me. IMHO I tried digging around in my tube collection and could not find any JJs which I love in Splawns. Going to order me a few JJs and can't wait til they get here Maybe change power tubes too. Mullards or SEDs as I've had great results in all my QuickRods. Does anyone else using JJ pres and SEDs or Mullard combos in their SuperComp? And what do you think?

I have SED Winged =C= EL34s and JJ preamp tubes in my NItro and it sounds fantastic. My settings are almost exactly like yours except I run the gain about 11 O'clock.

But the pres last for years, don't they? Surely if the amp's changed this much it's down to power toobs?

I thought they lasted for years too but I guess they can go anytime. I want to try some diffrent power tubes (Mullards,SEDs) to tighten up the bottom a little. Ayton,I agree but will see I'll post a updated after I retube.

Found some JJs pres. I had put up. Big diffrence between those and the chinese tubes. But it still sounds like the speakers are farting out. I guess power tubes are next, maybe it will tighten it up a bit. These tubes are only a few months old though ,what gives?
Cab is SBs and Vol at 9 oclock, those speakers should handle that, shouldn't they?

You might want to check the bias too...it can have an effect on the low end and tightness of the amp.
