I've been tweaking my Splawn 1987x by changing the tubes, using a Power Brake, using the FX loop trick to play at low volume, etc. I've noticed that my amp really doesn't clean up when I roll the guitar volume down. It kinda behaves like a transistor amp, and only gets a little less gained out, instead of getting that almost Plexi clean.
Is that par for the course with these, or can they be made to clean up like a QR or Competition does?

My Splawn Plexi cleans up nice.. Especially with single coils.. I love it.

Hmmm. I wonder why mine doesn't clean up as well? Anyone else with a Splawn Modded Marshall out there??

Try using gear 2 with gain around noon, it cleans up best on these settings, still won't be totally clean though.

Modded Marshalls don't have gears. Only OD1 and OD2.

What do you usually run your gain at?? Also what kind of pickups are you using? Maybe I have something similar.. I could check and see how it works

If you crank your gain and use a guitar with high output pickups it make it much more difficult to clean up rolling back your volume.
