I have a Port City OS 2x12 with the Governor/Manowar combo. Would I be stupid to sell it to get a Splawn 2x12 OS cab??? I really need some pointers here from someone with experience with both cabs.
If I sell my PC cab, I will be selling it with the old V30's. Therefore, I will only need to buy the Splawn cab unloaded... I don't want to make a stupid move and regret selling the PC cab.

Well,
the Splawn cabs are great, so if you can get a bunch of money for yours, might as well sell it and pocket some dough for some speakers or whatnot... To me it seems more of a looks thing.

Do you have experience with Port City cabs? I already have the Eminence Governor & Manowar, so if I choose to get a Splawn 2x12 I will buy it new unloaded. I want it to match my QR. But, I don't know... The Port City stuff is very well respected, and I don't want to make a hasty bad decision.

My apologies,
No, I am unable to expound on the differences between your ported cab and regular closed back cab from Splawn, likely making my response to you irrelevant. I don't think you will make a "hasty" decision, and you won't get anyone here to tell you "buying a Splawn cab is stupid". lol. Only you can answer if a ported cab is a necc. ingredient to your music. If so, you may be disappointed by a closed back cab, the bass response can be different.
Good luck!

Kinda sums it all up... A Splawn 2x12 cab is probably not exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks~~~!!!

Im in the same boat, but with 4x12's the Cab sounds huge with all the knobs at noon on my QR but i keep the bass about 8-9 'clock since with the port it gets boomy, Im debating about just switching out the v30's for some Splawn speakers. But just getting a matching cab is tempting.the Port city is a damn good cab...and sounds great through anything...hmm.. Also the port is not just for looks, I would advice you to try one.

I have a Port City cab. I think I've changed my mind about selling it though. My speakers probably just aren't broken in. I would advise you to hook your PC cab up with the Eminence Manowar/Governor combo in an X-pattern. It sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than my cab did when it had Vintage 30's in it. It's just tighter, with more of everything. I haven't heard the Splawn speakers... But I've heard that Scumbacks sound even better than the Manowar/Governor from people who have had both. If I were to change my speakers in the future, I would go with Scumbacks, but they're very expensive.

See thats the thing i dont want it to be tighter, I want to get a little more sag and give out of the QR its a bit to tight for me, Which is why im thinking about going the greenback clone route. Scumbacks are great speakers and high on my list as well but there damn expensive! 720$ with breakin for the quad as were the SB's run for 400$

+1 on the Scumbacks. They are a bit expensive, but remember Celestion wants $150 for their new direct from China speakers! Are Jim's USA made ubertone speakers worth $180? If you are on a tighter budget, the Scumbacks combine great with other speakers; I combined them with common as dirt G12Ts and my JCM800 and JVM sounded great.
My personal plan is to run 2 XH75 scumbacks and 2 Small Blocks, I will share when its done.

I am tired of heavy gear so I sold my last 412. My Stone Age semi open back 212 and Bogner OS212 are both heavy 212 cabs, but I still love them. I am getting one more cab with a Greenback flavor and was on the edge of ordering a diagonal 212 that is 26x27x14 that is over 70 lbs with speakers. My problem is I want a cab that is easily heard on stage, has the focus and bigness of my OS212s, that is closed back but maintains the air and 3D quality of the semi open back. I decided on a Port City OS212 with Celestion Creambacks. Under 60 lbs loaded.
