I know this has been discussed before but cant find it. I have a single ch. QR (prostock) with el34's in it. I am hearing that the PROMOD is the SAME amp as a Quickrod but with kt88 tubes. Is this the ONLY difference? Can i get a quad of kt88 and toss them in there, bias it up, and then go? I thought i saw someone mention that a resistor or something has to be changed as well. If anyone is familiar with this please chime in. Thanks

you'll need a new resistor for the bias pot..the 88s run at higher mA than 34s and their variants...

Thanks for the reply shred. BTW...im sure you've heard this before, but your vids were a big influence on me finally getting into the Splawn thing. Thanks for that. In your opinion, just how different of a tone IS the promod? Ive been using the QR for about 18 months and i am ultra curious how a PM sounds (or Feels). Ive heard the clips, but those arent always a good indication. It always feels diff when playing them, of course. Am i going to regret selling my QR to get a PM? Thanks again.

I had an '07 Quickrod for two years and now have a similar era Pro Mod with 6550s.
They're pretty similar. The Pro Mod's A little less aggressive in the mids (but still plenty of midrange), a little round sounding on both ends. Bigger bottom ... but all in all not that different.
There is one good set of clips here in the Pro Mod section that kind of shows the basic difference in tone. I'll see if I can find it.

Here it is--and I think this shows an even greater difference than I perceived since it's a direct A/B and you're hearing one right after the other. You can get the Pro Mod a bit clearer than that if you want.
