hey guys, i know the street rod's clean channel does not have a gain knob. is this essentially the same as the "old clean channel" on splawns or is it tweaked to sound like the "new clean channel" just sans-gain knob? thanks.

I think these still have 4 preamp tubes, so I suspect it's more like the new clean channel but with the gain knob in a fixed position. Anyone know for sure?

I don't know what the issues were with the "old" clean channel, but I can tell you that the SR clean channel will break up if the amp is really cranked. I only did this once -- I never use the clean channel anyway.
If you want a definitive reply, call Splawn directly and ask them.

could you take a quick look and see if your street rod has 3 or 4 preamp tubes? thanks!

could you take a quick look and see if your street rod has 3 or 4 preamp tubes? thanks! Don't know when I'll be able to do that. Amp is at a practice space right now - I won't see it for a few days. If you're seriously considering the amp, I'd highly recommend you call Splawn directly and get the straight scoop on tubes, channel design, and expectations about the sound. Other than my initial testing of the amp, I don't use the clean channel so I can't tell you much of anything in that regard.

That's alright. I actually have one on order already. I try not to bother scott if i can help it. He's busy enough as is. I was just curious more than anything. Thanks.

windsen....the SR is a 4 pre amp. it is exactly the same clean as the QR except for the gain knob.
