Hi guys I`m the new here I`d like to say hallo everybody first. After hours and hours what I spent on this forum by reading posts to make decission which amp to choose I found that Pro Mod would be right amp for me.I was thinking long time about Nitro but fact that I prefer "Dukes" tone push me there.I found some reads about unhappy cobination cab loaded V30`s with QR or PM due to too trebley result. But I don`t want to change speakers even whole cab for other ones coz it does good job with my other brand amps.Shall I change my mind and go rather for Nitro which /as I read in section Nitro/ sounds far better conected to Mesa cab or other similar cabs loaded V30`s??? Or have you got any other recomendation? Any help will be appreciated..... Thanx

Good timing! I have a Pro Mod and my main cab is the larger Mesa Recto 4x12, but my Splawn 4x12 with sb25s just showed up yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't have much time on the Splawn cab yet. Maybe my Mesa cab is an exception, but it sounds great. I got it used and the speakers were worn in. I owned a Quickrod for awhile too and the secret is to adjust the controls using your ears, not your eyes. When using my Mesa cab, I find that I run the mids pretty low. Same for treble and presence too. This is with both the QR and the PM--they're not *that* different. Now with the Splawn cab, I can tell that I can run those controls a lot higher. I take it you already have the Mesa cab? I think the best thing to do is go ahead and get your Pro Mod head, and run it with the Mesa for awhile. I mean, it still works and sounds good with the right settings. If you're not happy, go for the Splawn 4x12 later. They are made for each other and it will work great with the Pro Mod. My problem is I like everything. I was going back and forth yesterday between my two cabs and was pretty darn happy with both. And yeah, I agree with you, I don't want to ditch my Mesa cab because it is a perfect match with my Bogner Ecstasy.

Simply put, IMO: Splawns still sound good with V30's but sound amazing with Splawn/SB-25 cabs.
My PM sounded great with my Bogner cag but it sounds even better now with the Splawn cab. Mesa cabs unfortunately sounded no so good with my Splawn in my experiences

Can you compare SB-25 to any other Celestion speakers?I´m in Europe so there is easier to get some of these. What you think about Greenback´s?They are 25W as well.

The sb25 has similarities to the Celestion Greenback. Despite the name, they are actually 55 watts and can handle low end without getting farty.

I had a look on Greenbacks here.Celestion make 20W or 30W version and I can say they are overprised.I can get whole Marshall cab 1960 for price of quad of Green´s.But this is theme for another thread in cabs section.I will buy amp first then I will try to find matching cab...

You would think there would be no difference because they are both built very well but IME the Mesa recto cabs are just very dark sounding. I have played through a few of them and had the same experience everytime. My Bogner was always more open sounding and the Mesa sounded muffled. It was good for Mesas and a few other heads but I never liked the sounded with Marshall type heads.

Right.Splawn make smaller size cabs compare to Mesas oversized as I saw on picture above. So what will happen if I just swap V30 speakers in my recto for Greenback`s?I mean more space vs. lower performance (280W>120W).

i usually hang out in the Nitro forum but after seeing this thread id like to add my .02..
i too have heard in the past that mesa recto cabs dont do so well with the splawns for whatever reason..now while i havent had a chance to try a splawn 4x12 with my nitro, i do have a mesa stiletto 4x12...this cab is smaller in size than the recto cab and is supposed to have a better frequency response than the rectos. So far im gonna have to agree with that...ive had the cab about a week now and im pretty damn happy with it. The low end is tight and not boomy at all.

i just got my promod in last week and am using it with a mesa cab with V30's. i haven't messed around with too many other speakers with it though. my other cabs are Orange PPC's, which also have V30's, but i do prefer the Mesa over my other cab, which has two T75's. i am entertaining the idea of Xing the V30's with the T75's though, or even maybe buying a pair of H30's.
i do want to try smallblocks with it eventually though, based off of what everybody is saying.

I have a Mesa cab with the Eminence Legends in it and it sounds decent but it is very dark sounding.
