So, I have been playing my Pro-Mod through the same full stack for years now...All of my speakers are Celestion G12k-85's. I love the sound of my rig, it decimates all others in it's path but I cant help but wonder if I am getting the most out of it by running all those 85's. I have other speakers but they are all vintage Jensens and Classic Lead 80's. Should I buy 4 different speakers and try some X-pattern stuff or just bite the bullet and get 8 new speakers? My Pro-Mod is one of the earliest I have seen. It has the Mercury Mags, a single input and no gears or half power switch.

If you're really gassing to try some new speakers, I would suggest calling Scott for some ideas.

Trying different speakers is great fun. I've tried many with my Splawn. I would however buy one or two at a time rather than four or eight, and try them on their own rather than mixed, to see if you like their tone before splurging on enough for a full stack.

I love trying new speakers when I get the chance. Everyone raves about the Splawn small blocks, maybe I should try to get my hands on one or two. The shop is only 20 minutes or so from my house...but I stay on the road for most of the year so its hard for me to nail down a time to get there. I'm home for a bit at the moment (until may), maybe I'll try to swing up there one day.

Yeah if you live so close, I highly recommend bringing you amp and trying out those small blocks. I bought them based on clips and am very pleased.

The shop is only 20 minutes or so from my house... If that's true, then you should definitely take your head into the shop and try a cab there. Or maybe you have friends with different cabs that you can borrow or A/B with. I would try that before you spend money on speakers you may not like.

So, I filled a cabinet with 2 Celestion 80 watt speakers and 2 vintage Jensen C12Q speakers. I took the cab to practice yesterday and it sounded awesome! The super early breakup of those Jensens was just what I needed I think. They are about 40 watts each and with the low end thump of the celestions, they cut right through. Really cool experiment! Now I have to load another cab and I'm good to go!

So did you ever go into Splawn's shop and try out the small blocks? I was resistant to buying a new cab (god knows why) but after getting my Splawn 4x12 a couple of weeks ago and using it live, I can't imagine anything sounding better. It's perfect with the Pro Mod and I suspect that if I had just sucked it up and got this cab a year ago, I never would've sold my Quickrod.
Other speakers sound good, I just feel like these speakers bring out the best in the amp. I've always mixed and matched heads and cabs based on what I could afford and what I thought would sound good. This is the first time I've ever had a matched rig (my wife actually pointed that out!)

LOL, same here. I’ve never owned a cab to match my head. I don’t know how many times this can be said on this forum but listen to these words people! The Splawn cabs and speakers will give you the best tone out of your Splawn head. It’s no secret by now!recognize suckas!

the previous owner of my pro mod told me his favorite combination of speakers when he owned it was V30's and H30's in an X pattern.
i however haven't tried H30's, i do need to pick some up though.
