Just bought an '06 QR that has already been modded by Splawn to be a ProMod. It's coming with 6550's. Does anyone know what kind of difference in sound there is between 6550's and kt88's?

They're very similar sound wise. Some people may say that the KT88 has slightly more girth, while the 6550 may have a little more in the mids, but the difference is negligible, especially with the great sound of the Splawn pre-amp, and especially if you're not cranking your MV way up. Both of those tubes are designed to provide more headroom than an EL34 type. Hope this helps.....

I've wondered this as well ... I'm guessing the difference is negligible as mentioned above. Heck, my Pro Mod with 6550s doesn't really sound very different from my old Quickrod (which was from around the same time period as my PM).
