And the baby's sleeping. But not for long!
OK, I'm kidding (my wife won't let me wake up the baby) but I will be blasting this bad boy in the near future. I had posted about switching the KT88s to 6550s but it turns out that a previous owner already did that. Very cool ...
Can't wait.

Interesting amp. It came with a little sticker with the specs inside (I don't remember if my old QR had that). Looks like it shipped from the factory with Tung Sol 6550s, not KT88s. I know they are listed on the site as coming with KT88s so I wonder how common this set up is. Either way, I suspect these power tubes might be original which would mean they're pretty old...
Tung Sol in preamp V1 and JJs in slots 2-4. I've changed that to another JJ that I had--I haven't liked the Tung Sol preamp tubes in the past.
Anyway, so far it's pretty much what I wanted. It doesn't seem much different from my '07 Quickrod and the mids are ever so slightly tamed which is what I wanted. The lows and highs are bigger. Next up is I've got to get a sb25 Splawn cab. I don't want to make the same mistake I made with my QR and keep running it with V30s. I can get away with it but it just isn't an ideal match. I'm having a hard time deciding between a 2x12 and a 4x12 but I'm pretty certain I'll go with the 4x12...

congrats man, i think the promod matches up better with the v30 than the qr does because it has less mids and more lows and lower mid. sure the sb25 splawn cab would be nice but im sure you can get some nice tones with your v30 cab once you get the hang of teh amp, i loved it on ch3 with the gain on noon and a clean boost in front.

God these are mean sounding amps, it's like hell on earth with my Les Paul. I've missed that since I sold my Quickrod. I feel like I've been through every amp known to man over the last couple of years. I think I can settle on my Bogner 101B and this Pro Mod.
I'm feeling like I won't get the best out of this without the sb25 cab. Since my two heads are voiced so different, I wonder if my Bogner would get along with a Splawn cab too ...

Welcome back to Splawn land. There’s no other place like it! Like Zao said, the V30’s work much better with a Pro Mod than a QR but the SB-25’s sound even better IMO. No more treble to pierce the ear drums! I would venture to say the Bogner probably sounds better with V30’s but may still sound great with SB’s. There aren’t many high gain amps that sound bad with GB type speakers.

I had some greenbacks last year but they fell apart under high gain and high volume ... palm mutes got all farty. BUT, I believe they were the 20 watt variety so the 55 watt Splawn speakers should correct that.

Yo, metalheart. I've been missing my black and silver QR...I remember we had matching amps at one point. Here's a pic of my new Pro Mod (I've ordered a replacement black plexi headshell with white piping). Based on the title of the picture from the seller, I think this is one of Rich Ward's (Stuck Mojo) old heads. I know he uses Pro Mods with 6550s so that would make sense. The head sounds f'ing great.

Cool I don't have my black and silver QR anymore(I wish I did) but I will have a Vintage white SuperComp with matchin 412 any day now. I think we got the same taste Anyway the wait is freakin killing me.
