what tubes to put in the nitro

yeah the afwayu is awesome in my JP6's bridge position but the detroiter was a bit too hot to go with it so I'm trying to sell it. I've got an air norton in the neck right now but I'm wanting to try a few other pickups I've got laying around before buying another (which if that happens will probably be a bare knuckle cold sweat)

but I want to try my duncan pearly gates, tone zone and maybe the stock liquifire again before dropping $150 on another pickup.

I have SED KT88's in my Nitro and I love it. I used a Jan 12ax7 (5751) for the clean channel and it made it better but I don't even use my clean channel these days.

Hi guys.. I didn´t want to start new topic so I just did refresh this older thread..I read many posts that you guys like chinese pre tubes even now they can be found as stock tubes in new Nitros...I got my Nitro few weeks ago /second hand/ and I decided to give it to my amp tech for retubing..After that it came back with 4 chinese 12AX7 B in preamp and with 4 Sovtek 6550´s in power section...After hours of playing I found that I can´t set it to sound right...It had boomy mudy bottom end even with bass and presence almost at 0,too thick and uncontrolable low mids with realy bad overal articulation...I know there is many factors which afect tone as power tubes,cab+speaker,room even guitar wood and pickups but I felt that preamp tubes swap needs to be done first...I have bunch of tubes of different brands and types so after couple hours I found that Tung Sol´s in V2 and V3 do job best..Also I put JJ 83S to PI with better result than with chinese one...Resonance+ bass conrols are more usable I can hear now center mids nice balanced with upper mids and treble..It cut through much better now and I can go with gain knob over noon without problems...I found these chinese tubes excellent in my Quick Rod which is quite bright and they help there ad some thickness in low mid range but I don´t like them in my Nitro at all....
