Order 4 Chinese 12AX7s from Scott. They sound really good.

If you put EH tubes in a Nitro you will be sorry. They are thin and fizzy. I have a shoe box full of preamp tubes of different brands and types. I have tried them. The clean on a Nitro isn't going to clean up the way you want. In order to warm up the clean you have to have the gain up pretty high. Chinese tubes respond and sound the best in a Nitro. If you want to go with lower gain on the clean preamp tube buy a 12AT7 chinese. It will have a full tone with less gain. If you are looking for more gain put an EQ in the loop. It does wonders. If you are feeling really froggy put a BBE Sonic Stomp in the loop with the EQ. Gain for days without all the fizzy buzzy stuff you will get with EH tubes. You really can't go on reviews on tubes and are better served looking at what Nitro owners are using. Splawn amps don't perform well with some tube manufacturers. Nitros are the best modern high gain amps out there right now. Scott uses tubes that perform and sound the best in his amps. It's best to go with what he is putting in them or recommends.

ok thanks for the input and i actually have a bbe 882i on it right now in the effects loop but i've been running it off just because i've been trying to get a feel for the amp first and ur right about the gain i turned it up and it sounded way better on the clean i thought it would distort it some but it really just thickens it up so thank you

No prob. It takes a while to get used to how the Splawns react to adjustments. They don't usually do what you think they are going to do when you start messing with it. I started adjusting from the loop instead of on the front of the amp. I just put the bass, mids, and treble at noon and use my EQ pedal to adjust the tone to my taste. The amp seems to react better since the amp was voiced based on everything at noon. You can also turn the presence all the way off and use the presence knob on your BBE to add presence. If you have a Splawn with the loop volume there is even more tone shaping you can do.

I have all Sino's in my Nitro (pre and power) I bought from Scott and they seem to be the best so far (tung sol, JJ's and Mullards before). You're right about cranking the gain on the clean Snappinnecks, it makes a huge difference! Mine is all the way up to 4 o'clock, w/master around 8 or 9 o'clock and it sounds sweet!!

Yep. Very weird, but it sounds so good. You have the best tubes for a Nitro IMO Lewis. I have the same thing and love them. I can bias a little colder with the Sinos and get a super tight chu chu instead of chuuuuuuuuuuuuug chuuuuuuuuuuuuuug I was getting with the spongy Tung Sols. Way more midrange bite with Sinos also.

For those of you that ordered preamp tubes straight from Scott, is the PI tube matched?

from what i recall the tubes were numbered in my nitro package, if that helps.

Yeah if they were numbered than I imagine Scott matched the phase inverter. I have been using JJ High Gain preamp tubes for about 2 years now, and I want to try the Sinos. I like the Sino power tubes vs. the jj's and sovtek's I have tried so I figure why not?

JJ's are awful in the nitro. I just use a quartet of ruby HG's and call it a day. They sound just as good as my NOS mullards, RCA's and Amperex preamp tubes for the style of music I play which is loud rock. If you're playing anything besides that, you shouldn't be using a nitro to begin with. I've made my last 3 amp retube purchases from Laura and will not be buying from anyone else from this point on. www.valvequeen.com/

Hey fastredponycar, off topic, but how do you like those motor city pickups? Just noticed them listed in your sig. Wade is local to me, and I really dig some of his stuff?
