I popped in White Knight Chronicles last night and played through the first couple of hours. Initial impressions: The video quality and resolution (480p) is pretty meh considering this is a brand new, current-gen game. Audio mix, sound effects, voice acting, and music are all very good. Character creation is very MMO inspired, wherein you create an avatar that becomes your playable character. Battle system is simple to learn but has a nice level of complexity to it. Once again, think FF XI in terms of battle tactics. The skill system is cool in that you can't learn every skill possible. The menus look great, are easy to navigate, and don't break with former Playstation RPG conventions (Triangle is menu, Circle is back, etc). Encounters and travel are very reminiscent of an MMO; I quite like how you can aggro mobs while you are in a combat if you are not careful (unless you're specifically trying to pull a chain). Another nice feature is that you don't need to have healing. Just stop moving for a bit and watch your party's hp return. Another nice idea taken from MMOs. You still have to use save points, however. Camera movement is fine; intuitive and smooth. Final nice point to mention: you don't have to buy or acquire maps! I'm not far enough into the experience to say how good of a game this is, but I think that as a diversion until FF XIII is released, it will do very well.

I was thinking about picking this and mass effect 2 up (renting it) this weekend to see what they are like. 480p res only?? that is weak!!they could have bumped it up,wasn't it out in like 2008 in japan? wait til you see FF13 running in all it's 1080p glory..drooling a little sorry. it looked like a solid game but with FF13 just around the corner and bio shock 2 and mass effect 2 out or coming out.i didn't want to spend the money and have it sit once the big ones start rolling in. oh and the international version of the really awesome star ocean:the last hope too.

Well, now that I've gone through a mess of encounters and a few boss fights, I can say that the combat system is VERY good. The AI for this game is the best I've encountered in an rpg yet.
