Ok guys, I'm seriously considering ditching my Marshall cabs and finally ordering Splawn cabs to match my Competition. Here is the dilemma......do I order a 4x12 or 2 2x12's ? I have been considering 2 2x12's for practical reasons (I ain't getting any younger!!lol) and I think it will look cool as a sort of mini stack. Other than moving a bit less air and slightly less bottom end thud, tone should be more or less the same I would guess....opinions anyone?? Also, do I choose SB's or BB's or a mix of both? I'm currently using Greenie loaded Marshalls, so I think I'm leaning towards SB's but again, any input appreciated Cheers, Rich

I used to have a Marhsall 1969 RI 4x12 loaded with english greenbacks. Then I got a splawn straight 4x12 with bb/sb x pattern. Wow! Made the marshall sound like a chihuahua. Plus the marshall cab had mdf in it, yucky! No mdf in my splawn! Just way better constrution and the overall tone/punch is much more full and articulate when you push it hard. Love the splawn cabs!

Splawn cabs KILL Marshall cabs, not even a comparison! My advice is that if you go with a 2x12 make sure you order side handles! I have a 4x12 and 2x12 both loaded with SB’s. To be honest, the 4x12 is easier to move around because of the side handles. My 2x12 has only a top handle and that gets awkward up stairs and no one can help you because there’s only one handle.
That said, the 2x12 sounds almost as big as the 4x12 so you can’t go wrong either way. If you are using greenbacks then you should definitely get the SB25’s!

I would say unless you really need the 4x12 go with the 2-2x12 . I have a 4x12 and a 2x12 they both kill and I really don't hear that much difference in tone . Btw I like the single handle in the top . I can carry my head or guitar in one hand and the cab in the other . If I'm going up stairs I just grab it like I would a box by the bottom corners . I can't say about the b.blocks having never heard them but I can say the small blocks are great , sound like green backs to my ears .

Well it's a two-way street, Rocker. Buy a Cornford cab (which would cost us a fook ton over here.) Someone will sell you Small Blocks privately I'm sure, if you don't just want to grab G12Ms.

Adding import duty and a set of G12M Heritage speakers and the cabs are heading towards the equivalent of $1200 each!! The equivalent UK price is about the same as what Bogner 2x12's retail for over here. Hmmmmm If I go for regular Greenies instead of the Heritage reissues, I can knock off a couple of hundred. Does anyone have Greenbacks in there cabs or can tell me the difference between the regular and Heritage speakers. My Marshalls are just running regular Greenbacks so I'd be interested to know the difference especially as the Small Blocks are supposed to be similar to the Heritage ones. Cheers fellas, Rich

I DO like two 2x12s and have done it before. You can choose to bring just one with you, you can stack them to make a pseudo 4x12, you can put one on each side of the drums (my favorite way to go)...
That said, I just ordered the Splawn 4x12. I love the feel and can still lift them so what the hell.
