Okay PM owners… give us an overview of your amp settings and tone. Please tell us your gain channel settings (in clock format) for your basic sound, and briefly describe the sound you’re going for / music you play and any “tone” altering FX (EQs for example) that you use as part of your basic sound.
--------------------------
Mine info is as follows:
I play mostly classic rock / hard rock (‘70’s to the ‘90’s). As far as external FX, I don’t use anything to color the tone of the amp and I rarely use additional gain. Mostly use reverbs, delays, compression, or chorus.
Presence: 9 Bass: 3 Middle: 3 Treble: 9 Solo: 8 / 8:30 (whatever gets me a reasonable notch above my volume setting) Volume: 8 (this is plenty loud for band practice and most gigs – amp is always mic’d anyway) Gain: Noon Mode: 2nd Gear (sometimes 1st, almost never 3rd) OD1/OD2: OD1

Hey DD...well....lets see...I have a ProStock w/KT88's, so it's pretty much a single channel version of your amp....depending on the room....right now it's......... all settings are clock related.....
Presence----1 >Bass---11 >Mid----1 >Treb----1:30
Solo---11 Vol----10 Gain----2 Gear----1st.....toggle btw od1 & od2...never 2nd or 3rd gear. Ibanez ts-808 on all the time, except for rolling back for clean...what a machine! ;D

Hey - SmokinPaul and DonaldDemon -- tell me what kind of speakers you are using with your PM?
If I run my PM with the treble and presence at noon, it will shear the heads off donkeys -- too much high end. I have to keep these levels around 9 o'clock and offset them with my bass and mid at 3. I'm currently running cabs that are split with Vintage 30s and G12H30s.

However, now I use only SB-25’s and still run my presence about 9:00 and the treble about 11 or 12. I don’t know about how loud you are playing but my bass is usually around 9-10:00. I see guys running bass so high and I can’t imagine it! The bass already thunders at the low setting for me.

:)Hey Ron, I'm using a Splawn 4-12 loaded with SB's, but on the bottom there is a GenzBenz g-flex 2-12. (There goes my secret). Mostly all the time a lot of the controls are at noon. I use mostly 1st gear all the time and toggle between OD1 and OD, and once in a while, for some added chutzpah, I'll hit 2nd gear. As far as V30's go, for me, forget it. Don't like them one bit. I'd rather use G12T75's if that gives you an idea about how I feel about them. I always liked Greenies but hated the way they farted out when I pushed them. The Splawn SB's are like the Heritage G12M's, reincarnated with way higher power handling capacity,(55w). So, you get practically the same tone as the English made Greenie, but way more chutzpah. Scott and Eminence have outdone themselves with this design! Well, I guess I'll stop the rant.... ;D Just trying to be helpful...

SmokinPaul and DonaldDemon - Thanks for your input on speakers. It's what I suspected. 2 years ago I switched from using Marshall 1960 cabs (GT75T stock loaded) to my current speaker configs and it was a huge tonal improvement. I've been very happy.
3 days ago I received my new "StreetRod" combo which is loaded with an Eminence SB25 (I think). I know it's a different amp (EL34 vs KT88), but it's very warm -- much more than I remember my old QR head to be. Then after reading your settings, I figured the speakers must be having a significant influence on warmth and bass response.

Oh you got the Street Rod combo! Nice. Yes the SB-25 is very warm, which is what I love about it, no spikey mids or treble, just nice and smooth with the right amount of bite.
