I'm dying to order a Splawn cab to match my new QR, but I can't decide what to get. Right now I've got a 4x12 Avatar traditional cab with Celestion V30s and G12H30s. I don't gig right now so it'll stay down in the basement/studio and be used for recording and jamming. How is the low end on the standard size 2x12 with sb25s compared to the 4x12. I'm thinking 2x12 because of the cash. I'm also GASsing for a new guitar...

Anybody who tells you that you won't loose anything going with a 2x12 isn't being realistic. There's no comparison. But if you're worried about being able to carry the cab, or space concerns, etc, then a 2x12 is a good solution. Its definitely a compromise though, by no means does a 2x12 compete with a 4x12.

I don’t know Sonic, I have both and it’s not much of a loss at all. Both cabs are Splawn cabs loaded with SB25’s. Sure the 4x12 has more air and more low end but I would be fine gigging with just the 2x12, it’s no slouch. I think a part of it is the Splawn quality because I have used other cabs and the Splawn is the best 2x12 I have heard hands down. If he was gigging medium sized clubs an up I would say 4x12 but for jamming at home the 2x12 will provide plenty.

You do usually have to give something to get something (no free lunch), but if you're gonna be playing at home for now, and price and/or space are an issue... the 2X12 is a good solution. If you hook up with a band down the road and start gigging, you could always pick up a 4X12. Then you could leave the 2X12 where you play at home and keep the 4X12 with the rest the band equipment, or out in the garage where it's ready to go.

Sure for small bars and home, or for low/moderate volume playing, a 2x12 would be sufficient compared to a 4x12. But for actual rock/metal stage use, a 2x12 isn't in the same ballpark as a 4x12. Play in any medium size club (or larger), while on stage with a metal band, and A/B compare a 2x12 with a 4x12 - the results will speak clearly for themselves.
There's a lot of variables involved. For example, the type of cab design. Specifically straight vs. others. Here's one specific example: Somebody who is used to playing straight cabs won't notice as much diffrence when swapping to a 2x12 as somebody who's used to playing through a slant or hybrid. In other words, if somebody who's used to playing a classic 4x12 slant swaps over to a 2x12 (which is straight-faced) then they will notice a lot more of a difference than if the person had been previosly playing through a 4x12 straight-face cab. Or said another way, if somebody had a 2x12 and then swaped to a 4x12 classic slant, they are going to notice quite a significant difference.

I use the 2x12 for smaller bars/clubs and those that complain about volume

The only slight difference I notice is a little more thump and air movement with the 4x12 but then again there are 2 more speakers which are pointed towards me. Sometimes I play the 2x12 and start to think that having the 4x12 is redundant. The problem is it just looks so darn cool! One of the reasons I keep the 4x12 around is to have an extra cab that I can leave at a practice space.

:)I'm telling you guys....you've got to try the GB g-flex. I've got 2 and they sound great. About ready to order a Splawn trad slant w/ SB's to pair w/ one of the g-flex cabs. Ouch... gonna be mowdown at the hoedown! Seriously, try the g-flex on the bottom with the 4-12 of your choice on the top. You won't be dissapointed....try it!

You guys make this so hard for me! I've got the cash to buy either one right now. If I could just sell my SG Diablo, there'd be no question...I'd buy the 4x12 in a heartbeat.

I don't know about delivery date, I just ordered from the online store. I ordered it with white tolex, white grill cloth, and black piping to match my QR.

I know one thing I just got my cab and the turn around was only about a week or two from the time I placed my order. Scott Rocks!
