Hello,
I just upgraded to Internet Explorer 8 and for some reason now the back button will not work with the Splawn forum in certain instances, goes dead as if it cannot find the previous page and says I must hit the refresh button to attempt to reconnect. I have no issues on any other sites so far.
So far I've only seen this problem after performing a search, then clicking on a post from that search, and then hitting the back button (to try and get back to the original search results list). This is how I generally use forums, so this newfound "behavior" is a royal pain in the arse.
Any clue what is going on with this??

Okay, I unistalled IE8 (which then automatically reverted the system back to IE6), and everything works fine again. So I tried installing IE7, and still get the same problem. Keep in mind, I've not found any other site that has a problem other than the Splawn forum. Here is the exact page text I'm getting when the error occurs (using the steps described in the post above):
----------------------------------
Webpage has expired : Most likely cause: The local copy of this webpage is out of date, and the website requires that you download it again. What you can try: Click on the Refresh button on the toolbar to reload the page. After refreshing, you might need to navigate to the specific webpage again, or re-enter information. ----------------------
This shouldn't be happening, the search results screen should be getting re-posted from the cache. I have no clue what is going on here, any Windows/Web geeks have any suggestions as to what the fook could be causing this?
Thanks,
Sonic

It might be over protective security. Entering searches counts as filling out a form online (same as entering your address, say); going back to search results really fills out that form again and resubmits it, though you don't see this. I'd suspect IE is trying to help you in that wonderful Microsofty way that makes things worse. But if so, you might be able to disable it somewhere.

I just went to another machine, also with XP/SP2 and IE7 (in other words, a nearly identical machine) and it did the same thing. So this is indeed a problem either with the forum (proboards) or some weirdness that comes into play when installing any version of Internet Explorer post-IE6.
Anyone? Bueller?

Sonic I had the same problem with several sites after upgrading. I installed "Firefox" as my web browser and it all went back to normal. I think IE8 just sucks that's why. Try firefox and your problem should be solved.

The fact IE6 works indicates there's been a change someplace, I'm guessing a setting of some sort inside IE or the OS that can probably be tweaked. Just a matter of finding the fookin' thing.... I'll research and post the solution if I happen to find one.
Oh, and for whatever it's worth, IE8 is STILL not fully ironded out, and I don't care for the process design either. Anybody who's contemplating IE8, don't - stay with IE7.

I've been researching for a few hours now, this problem appears to be well reported but no fix available on the host side. It's something that can apparently be "fixed" on the server side however, and is related to the way IE7+ interacts with certain sites. Fookin' Microsoft!

It's bloatware anyway. Firefox!
