...it's a month and a half I have my pro stock and although I find is a GREAT sounding machine, very punchy and crunchy, I've also found is a bit...dark or dull (for lack of better words). I have to run presence and treble quite highs (let's say 2 o'clock and above) to get the tone pretty balanced, but still would like to get it more open... I tried different cabs and speakers and different preamp and power tubes. I've found a better sonic balances with Sino's EL34 and NOS RFT in the preamp section. Speakers are Eminence Tonespotters, Private Jack and Screamin Eagle (so, all very open sounding speakers)... Any idea?? Last thing: my amp is a 09 with the very effective volume on the loop. Could it be the culprit? so, I get a very punchy tone even at low volumes but cut out a bit of highs? makes sense?

Keep working with it. I had the same problem at first. What cabs and speakers did you try?

Keep working with it. I had the same problem at first. What cabs and speakers did you try? a Custom Audio 4x12 (warmer, rounder cab) with Private jack and Screamin Eagle in X pattern and a Tube Town (german little builder) oversized 2x12 (pictured) with Tonespotter (more open, more top end, a little crunchier)... I know that Scott also use Eminence, even if tailor made for his amps

cutting the volume using the loop definately darkens my QR but I like it that way .the QR is a very brite amp and even after darkening it with the loop its still plenty brite . If you want to know for sure if that is the culprit just open the volume in the loop up or disengage the loop entirely and see what it sounds like . BTW I can understand the dark statement but my QR has never sounded dull

My advice is too keep working at it. Once you nail the settings you will be amazed. I run mine without the loop engaged. The loop darkens the tone a little too much for me, but whatever floats your boat. What kinda tone are you looking for? This amp's mids are amazing. Really what a hot-rodded Marshall should sound like but they dropped the ball along time ago.

ok, I spent an year with the amp and the honeymoon is over I guess. But I dig the amp more and MORE!!!! I really had lotsa other amps in the past (2 Steavens poundcake 50, VHT Deliverance, Aiken Sabre, EVH 5150 III, Engl Invader 150, modded Marshall 2203x) but there was always something missing. With the Pro Stock I plug in and have instant satisfaction. I can have that pissed off dirty tone I alwasy had lurking in my mind...built like a tank and sounds great. It's a cornerstone for me and my friends who heard and played the amp here in EU wonder why the hell Splawn amps are not so sought after and hyped as some others "famous" <put your name here> brands...

ah, I didn't see this thread a year ago...lol
yes, lowering the volume in the loop is gonna take out some high end so you'll have to up the treble and presence to make up for it..which you seem to have learned long ago..lol....I have an 06, but I use a rocktron in the loop and I squash the volume with the input output knobs..and I have to do the same thing
