Question about the gear thing. My Competition doesn't have a gear selector on the amp. With the footswitch connected I'd say left button light on=gear 1 modded plexi, lights off=gear 2 modded 800 and middle button light on=gear 3 super modded 800. Without the footswitch i guess it defaults to gear 2. Is this correct? I pretty much stay on gear 2 because I rarely connect the footswitch. Also, My chassis seems a bit short for the 800 style head box. There is a 1/2" gap on both sides. Any explanation? Attachments:

The older ones only have two gears. The middle switch is taking you between OD1 and OD2 for each of those two gears, I think, with the left switch working as you say. I think we discovered these amps default to OD1 with no footswitch connected, but I'm not sure which gear as most have a selector on the front. Should be easy enough to tell, as 1st Gear is so much brighter than 2nd.
Does it still have a Triode switch?

Triode switch? Is that the one that lowers the power output? I don't have one. My footswitch has a mode button on left, od1/od2 in middle and solo boost on right. Stepping on the mode button definitely lowers the gain and stepping on the od1/od2 definitely adds gain. I didn't really notice much with both engaged.
