I had the Compy's master volume set at 9:30 and the loop master set at 3:00 (it pegs out at the 5:00 o'clock position) yesterday, and it sounded full on incredible. This is a little louder than I have ever played my QR or the Compy before at church. They were encouraging me to turn up a little more.....so I did. ;D I have had the loop master up to about 2:00 before, but this is the hardest I have pushed it. We had some great worship yesterday. From bluesy and soulful to REALLY ROCKING. We also played Hillsong's "Lead me to the Cross" which was a lot of fun. I got to do some soloing over the vocals at the end in our version. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXcbGxvgyR4&feature=related

They could hear me LOL. ;D I was using a flange effect in my Rocktron Xpression when we played "Lead Me To The Cross." I did not have enough time to try and dial in an effect just like Hillsong's guitar player used on the record, but the song came out really cool thank God. Our pastor even told the worship team after the first service how much he liked the set, and said "if you can't worship to that than I don't know.....LOL. ;D I am still stoked from yesterday.

I wish they'd do that at my church...I'm stuck using my POD X3 Live. We are not one of those mega churches with thousands of people, but we are mid sized with about 500 people. There are hundreds of Calvary Chapels in Southern California. The teaching is solid and the music is contemporary. It is great to play with other musicians on a regular basis. Playing in front of a crowd with other musicians has really helped to grow me as a player. I think the reason there are so many great Christian musicians and singers is because they get to work at it every week. Live experience is a HUGE blessing for me. I get to do something I love and I get to do it serving the Lord. Playing live is a lot more challenging than playing at home in my bedroom.

Not to highjack your thread or nothing, but i too play in our church worship band....our sanctuary holds about 450 ( 3 services on Sunday, 1 wednesday), and we can't even run stage volume on anything ( We guitars run XT Lives direct) we also run Aviom in ear monitors, caged drums etc. Because the powers that be only want 90 to 95db, there was no control of the stage volume, so this was the solution. Works OK...at least you get a solid mix of what YOU want with the Avioms, cause you have the control. Here is a vid of my pastors son proposing to his girlfriend during service a couple weeks ago, just to give you an idea of the size of the sanctuary... This group here on stage are actually the youth ministry worship band. They are called Cadence, and are really starting to get a name out there. They have played with 10th ave N, and are going to be playing the local Way fm "Wayfest" at the local concert venue. Here is a promo vid for a concert they just did at another local venue. Check them out at Cadenceworship.com

I think the not to exceed level was 100db or 110db. I can understand a church being concerned about scaring away people (especially older people) with real LOUD music. I realized yesterday that I still had a little volume attenuation going on through my Rocktron Xpression unit on Sunday, but I was LOUD. I had people telling me that they could really here me better today. ;D Our sound guy had an emergency and was not at practice during the week so I was not miked up or in the monitors. I have a 2 x 12 cabinet which some people were having trouble hearing on stage without me in the monitors. They told me to turn up my amp more. I left it there and they miked me up on Sunday morning. ;D PS: Our old sound guy at church did sound for Van Halen in their club days. He said that Eddie would always be so loud that he would have no control over his level at the board. Alan would have Eddie's fader all the way down. ;D Alan still talks to Mike Anthony whom he knows as Mike Soboleski from time to time. Alan had a small company that did sound for a lot of bands in LA, or bands who came through town. He got his start working on electronics for Jose Arredondo before he and a friend bought some sound equipment. It was really cool to hear him talk about old Van Halen stuff. I was probably the only guy in the church who even had an interest in that stuff. He is going to a church up in Pine Valley now, but I still see him every once in a while. I told Alan that I pretty much have one of Eddie's amps now the last time I saw him. ;D Alan also did sound for Ricky Nelson for years. He does not talk about his old days much unless I start asking him questions. He was really clueless that people knew who Jose Arredondo was and stuff like that. I would ask him about stuff I read and it would spark his memory. Then he would head down memory lane and start telling me about the old days.

We usually have about 800 or 900 on Sunday mornings. We also use the Aviom personal mixers with in-ears.
We play a mixture of contemporary and traditional. It's definitely made me a better player. So many of the songs we play were written for/on piano and have insane chords that are almost impossible to play. All kinds of polychords and crazy chords that I had never used or heard of before.

We play in A LOT of different styles at church and this has really stretched me also. The best musicians I have ever played with have been at church. They have REALLY helped me to grow as a musician. I have a much greater appreciation for different styles of music since I have been playing worship. I never know what I will be challenged with each week. I still sound like me when I play, but I now have more sides to my playing.
