Has anyone ever directly compared the SB25 to Celestion Heritage or Reissue Greenbacks? I know these are supposed to be 55W versions of the Celestion Heritage G12M's, just wondering how close they are to the tone and feel of the Celestion. Thanks.

At the first Splawn Con there was a cab loaded w/ SB25's and a cab w/ Herritage greens. I played both. To me they were a bit different. I thought the Herritage cab sounded the best out of the 4 or so 4X12 cabs there to play thru but not enough to justify the price difference. That said I own SB25's and love them. Great neutral sounding speaker. I'd like to eventually pick up a herritage for my isocab since it's only a single 12. I have a SB in it now.

ditto what SC350 said...the greenie cab was my favorite during the convention..but they're sooo friggin' expensive
my splawn 4x12 is loaded with the G12M reissue greenies..sound great at a fraction of the cost..you just have to dial your amp in a bit differently to tighten them up if you're using second or third gear...
the SB25s are GREAT friggin' speakers...if I could get another cab they'd be in it for sure...

Thanks guys. I really dig the Heritage M's as well, however, they really can't handle a 100W in a 412 and barely keep up with a 50W without getting all compressed in the low end, I've dealt with those speakers for a while now. My only options for the Greenback tone at higher wattage are the SB25's or Scumback 65W M's.

I have a pair of weber 1265s in my splawn 2x12....monstrous!!! only reason I got them was cause someone was selling them on RT for cheap...lol..... I think the scumbacks have a totally unrealistic price point

I was at the first Splawn Con with the Heritage and SB 25 cabs and I agree with SC350 and Shredder above, I thought the Heritage G12M cab was the best one there, but like they said...they were expensive. I have a 1976 Marshall 4X12 with original G12M Greenbacks ("Blackbacks"). You could prob track down a 70's Marshall cab loaded with them cheaper than buying a quad of Heritage models.

The Scumbacks are pricy, but not like the Celestion Heritage! Having traded enough gear (and lost enough $$ in the process!) to be labeled "mad", I would say just wait and spring for what you really want. Just buy that imported guitar instead...lol!

IMHO, I think the SB's sound a lot like Greenies, just a lot tighter in the bottom..(ALWAYS a good thing!)

My only options for the Greenback tone at higher wattage are the SB25's or Scumback 65W M's. Remember that Celestion's G12-65 was their idea for a higher power handling Greenie. "Tightly controlled low end" they say. I keep meaning to pick up a pair.

The SB25s have that neutral woody tone of the Greenback but are pretty chewy/thick, not as airy. Bigger/meatier - like you'd expect from something w/more than double the power capability. More like a modern tone take, not vintage/traditional.
I've had and have a few Weber variants and they're great, but all have been darker/less efficient speaker. Good, just different. My favorite is the Scumback M75 - it's worth the price of admission. Amazed how well it records - and sounds in general. Bought the M75-65 (came from one of Jim's Scumback demo 412 cabs and was broken in at delivery) and was floored how well balanced and toneful it was. Perfect mix of everything and pretty neutral. Put that one in a 112 and bought another 25watt version to mix with an H75-30 in a 212 cab (which sounds sic!).
The SB65 is a great speaker - smoother than the G1265s with a tighter low-end and mellower top end - lacking that Celestion upper bite (which I find irritating). I prefer the SB65 loaded 212 over the JCM800 412 w/the '81 G1265s.
They're all great speakers, just different - comes down to what you're running and what you like.

I have tried pre rola 1968 greenbacks,Modern Reissue greenback cab & Smallblocks. Smallblocks with the Quickrod hands down. All the Greenbacks were too "Barky". The smallblocks are more balanced and really bring out the best of the amp.

Just got a pair of Splawn SB >>>>>>>Smokin', dig the sound.
The G12 65 was disappointing, gritty and bright. Unless you want that...
Cheers!

I had 4 original G12-65's in my Marshall cab and they are really bright. I talked to Scott about it and recommended G12H30's (this was in 2005 before he had his own speakers). I think at the time he was using two G12H30's and two G1275's in his cab.

I was going to get a pair of G12 65s in my splawn 2x12..until scott told me they were heritage and cost an arm and a leg..so I went with the CL80s..which sucked ass....so I found a pair of WEBER 1265s on a forum for way cheap and put them in there..and they kick friggin' ASS....don't know how they compare to the celestion 12 65s, but the webers sound killer
I still like my greenie reissues in my 4x12 although I'm always kicking around the idea about a quad of SB25s....but I'm happy with what I have so why muck around
