Anyone here played a Framus Cobra? How does it stack up to the Nitro in your opinions?

i never owned a framus cobra but have played one and here is what i think. two completely different animals! the framus(IMO)sounds a bit like a a mesa recto head only better, more gain than the nitro and a bit fuzzier sounding as well. really nice amp and with time i am sure you could dial in a really bad a$$ed metal tone with it. for me if i was to own any other amp but my nitro it would be the framus dragon(which i played the same day as the cobra) and actually almost traded my nitro for ...GASP!!!.
much more "splawn" clean sounding distortion but a bit more gain and saturation and more versatile due to the three channels.i dialed in a SWEET tone within a few minutes of turning the dragon on that had heads turning and people gathering around while i played(if you can call what i do "playing")i had it going through a mesa recto cab(since i own one) and i ripped through a few "a day to remember/killswitch/shadows fall/stuck mojo riffs" since i was in drop c and it was singing!! the cobra took some fooling with but it sounded pretty good when i was done.i wish i would have had my maxon OD808 to run through it but i didn't so it was axe/cord/amp/cab and it was meaty!!!

I owned a Dragon at the same time as my Pro Mod and Nitro. The Dragon had much more fizz (way too much or me) and was more like a really polished 5150. The downer for me is that the Dragon lacks sustain. I have heard that about the Cobra too. It had tons more gain then anything Splawn but the Splawn gain is much more usable. After 1 o-clock on the Framus the gain is just mush and useless. The Splawn can go all the way. It also was no where near as loud as the Splawn. I Wish the Splawn had the Framus Global contol though... Right on the front just like the Framus. That would kick ass.

I played a Cobra for a little over two years before ultimately buying a QR. Never tried a Nitro, but I would have to agree with some of the other posts. The Cobra has more gain and is in the Mesa Rectifier realm as far as overall sound. The QR definitely cuts through the mix better, especially if you're in a two guitar band. The pre-amp noise from the Cobra is, well... overwhelming. You will certainly need some kind of noise reduction in the loop. Also, for the money... I didn't think the Cobra was very rugged / sturdy. Knobs / pots were loose and are vulnerable to damage as they protrude from the head shell. Biasing was also a problem as one of the tube sockets wouldn't give a reading. I was told this was a common problem and not to worry, but it bugged me.It does have tons of tight low end and the "Deep" control allows you to dial this in after the pre-amp stage. That was cool. All things considered, the QR is more versatile and I like it better than the Cobra. I know you were comparing to the Nitro, but that's just my two cents.

to me its very compressed, very tight, tons of gain, nothing at all like a splawn, any splawn.

the framus cobra is the most least compressed amp EVER.
