for those who have played both the nitro and supercomp, would you say there's a difference b/t the two? i know there are subtle differences in the overdrive channel b/t the dual channel quickrod and a single channel competition with the latter being a bit stiffer and aggressive. i did briefly play a supercomp at splawn con last year but it was through different speakers, guitar, etc.. than i'm used to so i can't make a fair comparison. thanks in advance.

you thinking of getting a super comp to take place of your nitro? I saw a post on another forum where he was spamming the Nitro, saying that he just doesn't play much anymore and needs to pay bills.

yea, it's true. i am selling my nitro rig locally b/c i do have some bills to pay right now. i was just wondering about the supercomp b/c sometime down the line i would like to get another splawn and am looking at the cheaper single channel splawns such as the supercomp.

here's an update on my nitro situation. a real good friend of mine offered to buy it from me today. he's wanted a splawn for a long time now (ever since we played together in my college band). so it's staying in the family, which makes it letting go much, much easier. it is for the best. i'm very happy it worked out this way. once things settle down i will definitely want to get back to a dual splawn setup. which brings me back to the original question...supercomp vs nitro anyone?

honestly windsen, i dont see how there could be any difference. its the same exact circuit save for the clean channel correct?
do you still have the quick rod?

yea it's the same circuit, minus the clean channel. and anything in (or out) of the signal path effects the tone to some degree. i was just curious since the discussion has been made with the qr and comp.
and yes, i still have the QR and a 212. i don't think i could go completely splawnless if i could help it =p

Okay, I'm reviving this old thread cause it was never really answered at the time. Maybe a year later someone knows. Just got my Nitro back(resistor replaced and loop volume added) and it freakin smokes. I have =C= EL34s and JJ pres. I'm so happy with the tone that I'm a little scared of getting a SuperComp and losing that sound. I don't need a clean channel. I was thinking of getting a 50 watt SuperComp to replace it but I want the same sound. I know a few of you guys say the QR and Competition do sound different.(btw I have a 50 Comp w/kt77s and love it). So has anyone played a Nitro and Supercomp side by side. Same cab, same guitar?

I used to have a Super Comp but never a Nitro.. My guess would be that it could be a bit different from the Nitro if you wanted it to. Since it has the mode switch which can get the mids boosted up a little so it could get close to a QR in 3rd gear with the Resonance knob off. Other than that I bet it would be the same as the Nitro. I never had a QR with gears but that is just want Scott has told me.

I'm running my Nitro with the Resonance at 9 o'clock, bass 10, mid 1 , treb @2 and gain at 10-11 OD1. After fiddling with side by side comparisons with my Competition, I found I can get the Competition to sound pretty damn close to the Nitro by putting my cheapo Danelectro eq in the loop and barley boosting the 3 high frequencies. That's still on OD1.
