I played through a H&K Tri-Amp for a few years and was pretty satisfied with it's ability to dial in clean, dirty and solo sounds.
After I heard the Quick Rod I sold the H&K and got a great deal on Splawn Modded Plexi. It is an AWESOME amp. Since I use the volume knob a lot I am able to to get a lot of different sounds with as little as one setting. I play in a typical rock cover/bar band and it gets a least one compliment per show. I also play in a southern rock tribute band and I have the perfect settings for clean and dirty sounds and I'm looking to perfect a versatile slide setting. The issue I have (with all amps) is that the gain gets cut when using a slide. I have been researching a lot of amp models and a lot of them use a Tube Screamer to boost the gain for slide settings.
So my question is can I get similar results if I run a screamer or is it possible to get these sounds internally? I would describe this amp as "very lively". It's very responsive and I'm wondering if a screamer would be over the top. Switching to the "Orange" channel comes close but it still doesn't have the punch I need.
Any feedback from users using slides or screamers will be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a problem with gain loss from using a slide. I use a slide in a few songs and while it doesn't sound as aggressive as using your fingers I still have plenty of gain on tap. That said, you could always try a boost to add more if you need it. IME and others using splawns tubescreamers don't work that well with these amps with the exception of the Maxon OD808. I use the RC Boost which a more of a clean boost and what I would try first before trying a bunch of TS clones.

I had a MAXONOD808 ,ot as good as a Tube Slammer by CMATS mod, but THIS monster I made, is a super modified 'Crunch Box" by JHS pedals tha is simply SICK with punch, I mean PUNCH, PUNCH, PUNCH, and totally transparent. If you like a BBpreamp THIS knocks it out of the park, its a MONSTER tone beast KILLER with my Competition QR 50 watter. Check the clip : www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGh0fTRXMX0

To me, a Splawn modded Marshall sounds more like a Marshall than a QR or Competition does. It has that Plexi type chime, plus a ton of gain. No clean channel to speak of, but you get a killer modded Plexi sound. Check my youtube video of the orange modded Marshall I had (AGK972 is my youtube ID) to get an idea.
